Hi,

I like that he took up my invitation to try them. He may never do it again, though now he has a sense of what they are from experience.

Regards,

Apparently, even if he loved them, he'd have a tough time finding them again. They're so popular, BK has already exhausted their supply . . .

Dow Jones Newswires wrote:
Make no bones about it: Burger King Holdings Inc. restaurants are running short of ribs.

Some Burger King outlets have already exhausted their supply of the pricey new pork ribs, and the company expects to use up its entire rib order in the next week or so, said John Schaufelberger, Burger King's senior vice president of global product marketing and innovation. That should end the limited-time offer sooner than originally planned.

The results suggest fast-food customers are willing to splurge for higher- priced items, a promising sign after chains used low prices to lure traffic. It also helps ease Burger King's strained relations with its franchisees, who want to sell more profitable products.

Burger King plans to sell ribs periodically in limited-time offers, with the next run coming after parsing through results, Schaufelberger said.

Burger King expects to use up popular ribs order

The wait is almost over.

The McRib® returns to McDonald's on November 2nd.

Expect a sharp increase in Pepto-Bismol sales.

From The Wall Street Journal, via Yahoo!

Quote:
On Nov. 2, for the first time in 16 years, McDonald's Corp. will offer the McRib at outlets across the U.S., but even then, only for six weeks or so. "It doesn't sell well all year long because people get tired of it," says McDonald's USA President Jan Fields.

<snip>

Quote:
Some people don't get the attraction. Justin McDaniel, a 32-year-old health-care-industry worker in South Pasadena, Calif., says he'll go out of his way for some fast-food products, but the McRib is "pretty disgusting" and he'll never sample one again.

"It's a conglomeration of pork waste, as far as I can tell," says Kate Sedgwick, 34, a travel blogger who lives in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She has never actually tasted a McRib, and isn't familiar with its ingredients because, she says, "I saw a dog turn his nose up at a piece of one. That's all I need to know."

O'Hare airport, looking for a quick snack before a long flight. McRib? I seem to recall a small fondness for it in high school. Was it a bit spicy? My memory thought so.

No. No, it wasn't spicy.
It was bland, barely even sweet with a pile of gloppy sauce.
Perhaps a nuance of liquid smoke.

The meat was like all McD's meat: indistinguishable in texture from the bun. Actually, the bun was a little better than the standard hamburger bun, with more of the texture of a white bread heel than the usual sponge. Flavor was mostly of salt.

The onions were at least in big enough pieces to have texture, which they don't have in a burger. But flavorless.

The pickle was the only thing with any texture at all... and it's still flavorless.

OK, I don't need to do that again. Ever.

On a whim I tried my first McRib today.
The "meat" had no flavor except salty and the sauce was just sweet liquid smoke. I'd really like those 450 calories back.
At least I can honestly say I've tried it.

Nov 2nd is the date for nationwide availability, but it is showing up in some places before that. I saw a "McRib is back" sign at a McDonald's in Champaign yesterday.

I wasn't sure whether or not to post on this thread or the Worst Thing You've Eaten thread. Wow..... that was a horrible experience. I don't why I chose to finish this ghastly creation, but I did, and I regretted every bite.

Hee hee hee.... That's pretty much how we feel about Chris on the Brethren, but he's our world-class nutjob

We've been having some fun with the McRib. We do weekly themed food throwdowns and we're holding a special throwdown where members are challenged to either repurpose a McRib or make something inspired by the McRib. There have been some very creative entrees. I did a McRib version of an Atomic Buffalo Turd (stuffed jalapeno) called the Atomic McRib Turd that even made the Chicago Tribune and L.A. Times

On a whim and for old times sake I gave one a try recently.

Nice bit of tang to the sauce, I liked their choice of bun. The pickles were a nice addition to the standard boneless rib sandwich.

Had a serious bout of indigestion afterwards though. Nothing a few Tums could not knock back.

That will teach me. :) (probably not)

I think Mickey's Riblet sandwich (real rib (baked and finished on the grill) deboned and served on garlic french bread) does not have to worry. :) By far my favorite sandwich of this type!

I too, recently dfell victim to the hype. I got one for lunch yesterday. Ate about half. It is just a horrible McLie. Foamy meat patty witgh no flavor slathered in far too much sauce. These things are available year round - go into almost any gas station with a sandwich case, and get the boneles rib patty. It's really that bad, imo. Never, ever again. No matter how attractrive the girl is in the commercial. I don't even care if they can get Stacey Dash, Jessica Biel, or Jennifer Love Hewitt from ten years ago to make a tv spot for this thing. Never* again.

*Well, maybe if they were like 89 cents, and came with a free Big Mac or something.

Aha. But that still leaves the door open that you might eat a Subway falafel sandwich if they got Megan Fox for the ad.

If Megan Fox was pimping Subway, I'd consider changing my name to Jared...

As for eating the "food," however, I'd still have to think that one over.

I did it once, in my first year of college (spring of 2003), at the long-since departed McDonald's which used to be on 53rd between Kimbark and Kenwood.

I've learned my lesson.

I'll probaby break down and get at least one McRib because of all the advertising HYPE.
( They are ok once in a while, and if HOT)

I do wish McDonalds would bring back the Johnsonville Bratwurst. I know they
do occasionally in Wisconsin.

Locally however, for a rib sandwich ....
I've been known to go OUT OF MY WAY just to go to Mickeys On Harlem in Oak Park.

The Riblet comes on Garlic Bread with Fries. The meat is NOT PRESSED...
but real meat scraped off the bones.

I have eaten more than my share of crappy food over the years, but even I will not let another McFib touch my lips.
