Had peach a few days ago, peaches were unripe with little flavor. No harm no foul, at a buck I switched to orange and had a big smile plastered across my face in no time. Looking forward to honeydew.

As always, your mileage may vary. I was just disappointed that they still serve peaches in that condition. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Had the same experience when I went a couple weeks ago. Oh well...orange has always been top notch, so I guess that'll remain my go-to.

the peaches in the peach have been that bad for the past two years on probably 90% of the batches I've tried. the lemonade itself is so good that I still get it every time peach is available.

Is it time to get off the peach at Mario's bandwagon? It sounds like it to me. I actually had pretty good peach at Mario's about a month ago, but I still had to work hard to convince myself that it was some great thing that I should get down on my knees for. Pretty good seemed to cover it fine. But more than that, if Mario's can't seem to know when it's making good peach and when it isn't, how can you really call it one of the great things to have in Chicago? Shouldn't you be making it that great on purpose, not just when your price-shopping happens to coincide with tasty peaches? This is a place that's picky about when conditions are right for making peach... but not because of flavor.

Lest you think that I'm being purely contrarian on Mario's, I think there is something that is world-class all through the summer, and that's Mario's watermelon. I think the canteloupe is pretty great too. And if it's easy to go have peach once a week and see how it is that week, go for it. But if you're devoting a lot of energy to catching the peach, I say, try the watermelon. I've had it three or four times this summer and it has never disappointed once.

Probably worth going out of your way to go Mario's for anything in the next week or so. They always close in early September and it's a long time till next summer.

    Hi,

Last night, I finally brought my niece over the Mario's. She began with a lemonade. When we learned their last day is this Sunday, I asked if she wanted a second because her next chance is May. She ordered a watermelon. She was quite delighted to dig up a big chunk of watermelon.

I had a honeydew. While it does not replace lemonade or fruiti tutti as my favorites, it was a good alternate. Saw LAZ and her husband checking out the honeydew, too.

While Mario's is closing for the season, my niece wants to go to Al's soon. If she had not already had dinner, it might have been last night. We both need to have our first visit to Al's. Yep, I have never been to Al's.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

    Tuh-tuh-today, Junior!

By complete chance I happened to stop into Mario's this evening - to be greeted by a hand-made carboard-type sign saying "We Have Peach" below the counter... and up above, next to the "Cantaloupe" and "Watermelon" ads, they had another sign saying "Peach - for a limited engagement". The kid at the counter told me they "have it until they run out" :-)

Had a cantaloupe-peach combo, and it was very good.

Dang! Made my inaugural trip to Mario's Friday afternoon with my brother and sister-in-law who are visiting for the weekend--so we just missed it. Had a cantalope watermelon combo and it was delish. Will just have to stop in again tomorrow

Sweet! Having lived 28 of my 35 years in the Chicagoland area, and the last 10 in the city I had never been to Mario's until last summer. And then it became a regular stop for my wife and me. Too bad we're booked up the next couple nights... eying Friday night for the first visit of 2012.

Yes, tis there - was there both Saturday and Sunday.. it wasnt there Saturday. On Sunday, however, right on the board where it says "Honey-lope", it also said "peach"! (So, of course, I did a medium, a combo of both - and it was terrific).

I think you mean "cantalope." At least they're consistent—it's the same on the sign hanging inside and on the long list at the right.

Cantalope = something between a canter and a lope.
