    Dear LTH Community,

The dawn of 2010 brings the thread, "Openings and Closings, Comings and Goings" to an end. It was a good idea, though over time the thread lost its original purpose of quick overview of what to look forward to and what has disapeered.

The delightful discovery of Jibek Jolu - Kyrgyz Cuisine was announced and almost lost on Openings and Closings thread. Fortunately, it was plucked out and made its own thread. Once Jibek Jolu separated from Openings and Closing, it proved to be a dynamic topic prompting much discussion and visits.

When Le Francais closed, it wasn't announced on its dedicated thread. Instead, it was announced and discussed in Openings and Closings. You will no longer find this discussion here because a moderator identified and moved those posts to a Le Francais thread.

Openings and Closings evolved into LTHforum's equivalent of a junk drawer. Rather than seeking out dedicated threads to announce a restaurant closing, it was quickly announced on openings and closings. Occasionally reviews were made here as well, which was never the intention. The moderators believe LTH will be more dynamic experience when there are multiple topical threads to consider instead of a catchall, which Openings and Closings eventually became.

To announce a closing on a dedicated thread neatly concludes a topic providing future readers everything they need to know. It also prevents the unpleasant experience of travelling to a shuttered restaurant.

To locate a dedicated thread, you could consider two methods:

    1. Via Google dialogue box:
    keyword site:lthforum.com or Kyrgyz site:lthforum.com

    2. Tips on using LTHforum's built in search function.

If a restaurant is opening, then begin a thread and keep posting on the progress. Alinea and Schwa are both restaurants whose life on LTHforum began before they opened with lively threads discussing (and speculating) on what to expect.

If you find no thread on the restaurant you want to discuss, then begin one. All thoughts great and small contribute to the mosaic of information we call LTHforum.

Thank you one and all for your contributions, because LTH certainly is a collaborative effort.

    Happy New Year!

    Regards,
    Cathy2 for the moderators

The shop goes on, though, with some younger butchers behind the counter. All else seems constant -- marvelous cuts, jovial service, get-what-you-pay-for prices -- while the name is changing to Holzkopf's. Thank god, they still have plenty of meatloaf in the freezer.

August 22, 2017 was the last day for Holzkopf's. More info from Edgeville Buzz. I'm sad to see another small shop go.
