It appears there is one not far at...

    The Original Chicago Hoagie Hut
    2807 Grand Ave
    Waukegan
    (847) 249-8300

    Supposed to be The Original

I always thought a hoagie/poor boy/hero was the same as a sub but from this thread it sounds more of a warm sandwich.

There is a good entry on wikipedia where the sandwich is traditionally cold but in Chicago it is sometimes warm.

As of today, the sign in the window says "opening soon" and there is little evidence that soon is imminent.

Have no fear, as of last Friday the Hoagie Hut is back :D . I ate there tonight and other than a cleaner, brighter restaurant
    everything is the same.
Now all is right in Highwood.

410 Sheridan ... isn't that the same address as the Curry Hut?

It is right next door to the Curry hut, in the old Papa Johns's Pizza (I think that was the name) location.

Finally made it to the new place today. Although it doesn't have the personality of the old location, it is certainly much cleaner, but then again, my garbage can is cleaner than the old place. The cheese steaks are as good as ever (or even better according to my son). The fountain drinks are now self service (one refill only, please). It seemed busier than I remember the old place, which could be due to the better location, or perhaps the cleanliness. There was even a Ronnie Suburban lookalike eating there. I knew it couldn't really be Ronnie, what with all the moderating duties and all.
It is nice to have the Hut back.

I will have to go before they muss it up to find their comfy zone.

I carried out a CSH and an order of fries for my wife the other day. The Hut is a much cleaner and well lit place then ever before. I sampled the fries and the CSH at home and while reserving final judgment until I am able to eat in, I could detect absolutely no difference in the sandwich. The fries were better, still frozen, but much much crispier. Chriss did look a little out of place in such a clean environment. Also, it is nice to have a place serving take out in the area past 9pm weeknights, I believe they are open until 10.

As noted in the Openings & Closings thread, the newer Highwood location of Hoagie Hut (410 Sheridan Rd) has now closed.

Sad, I dont think anyone really noticed that Chris had relocated to the new space.

I went into the "new" place for the first and only time last summer. The guy behind the counter (I assume Chris) didn't even crack a smile and barely said "thanks" after I placed my order. From what I recall, the sandwich was OK. Nothing special.

For my North Shore sub fix, I'll stick to Capt'n Nemo's in Winnetka.

That part of The Hoagie Hut experience obviously travelled well from the old location to the new.

I went to the location in Waukegan. Tastes just as deliscious as the original in Highwood! I had to get my fix!
