Been in the mood for dogs lately, natural casing double dog with onion, mustard and sport pepper is my doggy delight.

    Herm's
    - Natural casing but disappointing dog, tough casing, mild, actually blah, flavor. To add insult to injury I am 87.5% sure the onions on the dog came from a food service bag, probably frozen.
    - Undercooked skinny food service fries, even though I asked for crisp.
    - Once a favorite, now pushed down, deep down, in my hot dog rotation.

    Wolfy's
    - Natural casing, audible snap, cascade of flavorful meat juice on bite through. Quality mustard, onion and sport pepper
    - Skinny food service fries, but crisp and tasty.
    - An old favorite as good if not better than remembered.

    Red Hot Ranch
    - Natural casing, audible snap, cascade of flavorful meat juice on bite though. Quality mustard, onion and sport peppers
    - House cut fries, asked for crisp and received some of the best fries in Chicagoland
    - A favorite as good if not better than remembered.

I've had some great dogs at Wolfy's during busy times, but at off times the dogs often seem like they've been cooking in the water too long.

Red Hot Ranch has been quite variable as well but I haven't detected a pattern.

Natural casing Vienna dog, poppyseed bun, pickle, tomatoes, onion, mustard, sport peppers, neon relish, celery salt at The Dog House, a seasonal walk-up stand in Irving Park. There are a few picnic tables if you want to eat there.

I'd like to throw my stand into the ring. 8:1 NC Vienna's, properly steamed, same for the poppy seed bun, all fresh produce, textbook tasty.

    Poochie's?

Anyone else have a recent experience?

I went not too long ago, and man was it awful. I mean bad. The dog was natural casing, and the neon light said Vienna, but I really wonder what the heck I was served. It was mush. It was gunk. It was, well, I'm not sure what other words work besides bad.

Awful tomato too, but what can you expect on that.

BTW, the fries are "fresh cut", but I wonder is there some food service variation of "fresh cut." They had zippo flavor.

Do you mean that the EZ spuds are available for purchase or do you mean that Poochie's uses EZ Spuds?

Recent lunch at Poochie's and they were right on the money, both dog and fries.

Poochie's double natural casing dog, crisp fries.

Both, I guess. If you order fries, you get a product supplied by EZ Spud.

If you ask to buy them, they will drop them in hot oil and sell them to you.

At least they did at the old location. Haven't been to the new one yet. But at the old one there was a sign in the front window mentioning EZ SPUD.

From what I can tell, it's still a fresh cut product, never frozen. It's just not cut in-house. I don't know how long they've been (or were) using them, but I never had any complaint about it. Actually, I rank it pretty high on my list of favorite fries. Easy top 10, and probably top 5.

A couple more to add to the database, two of my favorites in fact. Nowhere near me but a place I'll go to whenever I'm around is Nana's on Irving Park in Streamwood. They do the minimalist style as good as anyone with the fries on top being perfection every time. Go on a Tuesday and it's $1.50 dogs, cant beat that. Good beefs too. Near me I enjoy Hot Diggity Dogs on Wellington under the Brown line stop. "Everything" here is tomato, pickles etc but no poppy seed bun. Fries come separate but they're some of the better ones I've had from any Chicago style fast food stand.
