Last week I did a double lunch that was a bit much but the proximity between the 2 burb locations worked.

Kome ramen at Ramen Misoya - Mt Prospect into a char broiled walleye sandwich at Boston Fish Market - Des Plaines.
Was a bit thrown off by the corn and potatoes in the ramen but the noodles and char pork medallions were amazing.
Also, very impressed w Boston's. You can do all their types of fish any way you want, which is great.

Thanks again to LTH for the heads up on both

On Saturday I picked up some brisket at Small's to serve as the centerpiece of our Super Bowl halftime dinner, along with a brisket bi bim bap with garlic rice to be consumed when I got home. As I was driving home I passed by Hot Doug's with a line inside the door and pulled over. I ordered a Bo Derek (spicy andouille sausage) prepare grilled and fried topped with mustard , onion, pickle and sport peppers, along with some duck fat fries. I still ate the bi bim bap when I got home and it was really good too.

Small's and Hot Doug's make a pretty awesome one-two punch.

As an aside, the Small's brisket was outstanding.

Tonight we enjoyed meatballs at Mondo Meatball as a prelude to ice cream at Jeni's, both on Milwaukee in Wicker Park (1467 N and 1505 N, respectively).

Mondo is a family-run joint with very nice staff, a variety of meat options, variety of sauce options, and variety of serving options. We've found it very tasty and very reasonable over several visits.

Jeni's is now featuring sundaes. The "caramel corn" - sweet corn ice cream, virginia peanuts, salted caramel sauce - was completely, utterly, decadently glorious.

Although I admit this borders on absurd, lunch of a Red Hot Ranch double burger, followed by espresso and a kouign amann at Bad Wolf.

Not geographically convenient, but sourdough rye from Baker Miller (Francisco location) plus pastrami from Kaufman's.
Hard to outdo the corned rye from Kaufman's, but Baker Miller does, albeit at $9 a loaf.
Warm the meat enough to render some of the fat and . . . you have a sandwich for the gods.
Edit: I just had another slice of the bread, with only butter this time. The first thing that came to mind was Poilane. Should have posted in Best Thing I've Eaten Lately instead.

A few pints at the Half Acre taproom, then over to Bad Apple.

I have a hard time believing this, therefor I will have to give it a try.

That's funny, the Bad Apple/Half Acre combo is our go to, particularly when we have out of town guests. We generally do Bad Apple first though, then get a pint. I've gotten to the point where I get confused if we don't end up at Half Acre after our burger binge.

The food at Half Acre has gotten so good that I almost never make it to Bad Apple after, which used to be the go to.

Found myself at Maxwell Street Market at 8:00 this Sunday morning to no line at Rubis for crisped, right off the trompo Al pastor tacos. Followed it up with a jaunt over to Chinatown to Dolo unlocking their doors at 8:45 for Siu Mai, Har Gao, and Han Sui Gok.

Popped in for a late lunch steak burrito at Pasadita, and after swallowing hard on the $20 price tag ($10 basic asada/onions/cilantro, $3 chips, $3 black salsa + taxman and counter tip) I walked around the corner to pick up a cold brew at Intelligentsia rather than watch the assemblage.

Maybe "great" is a stretch but this is still a very tasty steak burrito -- especially with fresh lunchtime asada off the grill. Black salsa tasted watered down to me and it's tough paying for something that until the sit down place closed I used to get for free (I know the bread/butter for free crowd feels my pain). I wonder what ingredient merits a charge for black whereas the green salsa is free. Maybe it's just a brilliant marketing ploy to charge. Deep thoughts. Cold brew kept me awake during my meeting. A very respectable one two puncheroo for sure.
