I'm shocked that I couldn't find any current reviews on bopNgrill in Evanston... This place is a hidden gem that defies explanation!
First of all, this isn't your common neighborhood grill with the usual grub, check out some of their menu offerings- philly cheesesteak eggrolls, kimchi burgers, etc! The creativity is well executed and their entire menu is an ambitious and well thought out combination of flavorful pairings will will have you craving more. For those of you that just want the basics, bopNgrill has that covered, from their wide variety of handmade %100 angus beef burgers and their crispy fresh cut fries, they know how to grill a mean burger and it shows. Their basic burger rivals any in the Chicagoland area, and their specialty ones, (check out their website for descriptions of their pizza/kimchi/loco moco/spanish, etc ) are simply ridiculous! The entire menu will have you indulging in your carnal food cravings yet also appreciating the creative thought and execution displayed in each and every one of the items offered here. It's obvious the owner here takes pride in his work and you will taste that distinction in every bite!

I also had many of bopNgrills Korean and Asian offerings and they were fresh, authentic and overly generous in portion size. bopNgrill also has an entire section devoted to eggroll hybrids, paired with mac and cheese or even a hot fudge brownie. Yes you heard that right, a mac and cheese or hot fudge brownie EGGROLL, which tastes as sinful as it sounds, the entire menu will have you drooling in anticipation and leaving full in stomach and fat in wallet, the prices here are a steal. Go and pig out here asap before they get too busy and word gets out... bopNgrill is a hidden gem in Evanston that continues to impress with it's diverse array of mouth watering items with a creative flair. If you thought gourmet fast food was an oxymoron and couldn't logically exist, check out bopNgrill you're taste buds will be shocked and inspired! Places like bobNgrill are prime reasons to support your local businesses when they go above and beyond to deliver fresh, unique and tasty foods that don't fit the conventional norms.

Is this the old Golden Greek place? I've seen and been directly involved in some nasty !@#$ at that corner (seen drug sales, was held up in front of the Golden Greek and witnessed a deliberate pit bull attack there quite recently while driving past) so I'm not rushing to go back there.

Frankly, Dodge and Church is one of my "don't stop at that corner, ever" intersections. I've run that red light rather than sit there on my bike.
I used to think the brain was the most important part of the body. Then I realized who was telling me that.

It's nice to see that intersection, across the street from the high school, starting get some interesting places. I think the opening of Boocoo, the coffee house and music venue, has contributed to that and alleviated any unwarranted concern that most (but apparently not all) of us might have had about going to businesses there, now that the area is improving. Having another worthwhile food business in the area can only be seen as a good thing in helping to elevate the neighborhood. The same is true of Ted's in the area a bit further south on Dodge. These places are off the beaten path and often don't get the visibility or publicity of those in downtown Evanston, and it's great to help those businesses that are providing good food and good value in outlying neighborhoods of Evanston.

I hear ya. I witnessed a shoot-out at that corner a few years back, when I was still living in Evanston, at about 6:30 on a weeknight. Surprisingly, I didn't get a speeding ticket fleeing the scene. :)

That corner may seem scary, but it is vastly improved in the last few years and is now somewhere I feel comfortable during the day*. It's not only the site of BooCoo (which I quite like) but also the West End Farmer's Market. I saw BobNGrill come up on GrubHub, and was assuming it was somewhere on California south of Devon - I'll have to try it out now that I know it's right around the corner from Sparky's swimming classes at ETHS.

*edited for clarity - sorry, I have a cold, I meant I'm comfortable!

I don't have any problems with the location, it's right outside of downtown evanston, don't know what it was like before but imo going out to cemetas puebla makes me more cautious, every time I go there I see streetwalkers, homeless and gangbangers walking around, I try to avoid them but you really can't on your walk over there. If you don't have an issue with Cemetas Puebla location you def won't with bopNgrill's.

Wow. I'm not one to get offended, but this just did it. I think you are seeing the Cemitas Puebla neighborhood through a different lens than most of us (I hope. I really, really, hope).

Perhaps those of us who are most familiar with a given neighborhood are less concerned than those who are not.

(Disclaimer: I have never heard of Cemitas Puebla and I don't know what neighborhood it is in.)

A search turns up no topics with that name in the title. A little more digging turns up seven pages of discussion in a discussion titled "Taqueria Puebla", which reveals a change in name and which I have reported to request a change in title. Apparently the address in question is 3625 W. North Avenue. While I am familiar enough with Chicago's grid system to know where that address is, I have no idea of the name of that neighborhood - care to share? - and have never been there. My point was that I have no idea of what that area is like. Fair enough?

Wow. Knowing how LTH has such a strong tradition of bashing people for anything they post, I figured I'd make it clear that I wasn't familiar with or criticizing Cemitas Puebla or its neighborhood, so that people wouldn't bash me for saying anything about its neighborhood. Instead I get bashed for not being familiar with every restaurant on the GNR list. Nice.

No one was bashing you but, as Gleam said, Cemitas Puebla is a GNR and has a couple of hundred posts it is surprising you never heard of the place.

As an aside, if I had wanted to snark I'm sure I could have managed something without a lot of effort. ;)

Zero of which are in a topic in the "Eating out in Chicagoland" forum, whose title includes the name of the restaurant. Having a restaurant's name in the topic title is the LTH equivalent of a sign out front of a restaurant that's easy to spot when you're driving or walking by; if it isn't there, you may never know it exists.

I guess it was silly of me to expect to find anything in the forum called "Eating Out in Chicagoland", which is where you can find discussions on most of the restaurants around town, huh?

    Post edited.

Thanks for continuing to prove my point about the bashing, though.

    Looking at the menu, this seems as though they have some interesting stuff;

And has anyone tried some of the interesting burgers that they have there, I love kimchi, and the idea of it on a burger sounds really interesting.

Their menu looks like lots of fun...wonton wrapped and fried hot fudge brownie! OMG! I think that I'll put it on the agenda of our office's little lunch club. Is it safe for me to assume that they are probably really rocking at lunch when ETHS is in session? If so, I'll plan for a date later in the summer when things might be a little slower in the neighborhood.

I was actually hoping to get some info on bopngrill, given that whatever the food is like it will be a marked improvement over a number of previous inhabitants of the spot (the place never gets the anticipated business from the proprietors because most of the high schoolers can't leave campus for lunch and when they can that's way to close to go)

about cemita's puebla - i think it was talked about a lot on another board right before LTH began and it was assumed at the time of most of the discussion that people had participated in that earlier discussion. it's true it would be helpful if the there were numerous threads on it with the name in the title, the neighborhood and for that matter its hours and parking policy (but hey there's always metromix or yelp for that) this board is a different animal. Me, I would just be happy, that I was given a recommenation for a fantastic sandwich rather than b*tch*in about the syntax of it.

FWIW, the GNR sub-board provides information in just that way, is kind of a handy-dandy cheat sheet, hell there's even a google map on there with all the GNR's pinpointed.

I went and had the bbq short ribs, they were great and the fries were excellent. Also had lots of food and great service.

We should try and talk about the restaurant in the title instead of complaining about other neighborhoods.

    Thanks for the suggestion.
