Hi there --

I'm taking my mom out for mother's day dinner Friday at about 6pm. Any thoughts on places to go? She's a fairly adventurous eater, but also loves Shaw's and that sort of steak-housey thing.

She has a low tolerance for loud music, loud tourists, and wild children. Actually, loud anything, so I'm trying to avoid some of the places that are a scene. Also, attentive service is a must. And finally, can I get this without mortgaging the house?

Loop, River North, South Loop are all up for grabs.

How about Keefer's? Would meet all your criteria, I think.

I love Keefer's but the main dining area can get pretty noisy. When I eat there with my parents I always make sure to request a table in one of the side dining areas.

Acadia might be a nice option. Beautiful modern room, not too modern food & great service. I wouldn't necessarily expect volume to be an issue there at that time of night...

If you like the steakhouse thing, Erie Cafe is a nice option, particularly if the weather is nice. A recent work dinner at McCormick & Schmick on Wacker was both quieter than expected, & less pricey than expected, but its pretty standard fare & I'm a sucker for David Burke, but I'm not sure if that's quite in your geography or price range.

Naha is always a sure bet, but on the pricier side. I recently enjoyed a very good meal at Vermillion, Indian/Argentine fusion, so a little adventurous & with more beef options that your average Indian. We've also enjoyed Zed451.

I haven't tried Sable Kitchen, but I'm fairly sure its had some love here.

We actually had a really nice steakhousey kind of dinner at rosebud prime.
Wonderful service and fantastic food.
Quiet restful atmosphere.
Decor was classic.

I go to Catch 35 for business lunches. It's very quiet and the service is very good.

Thanks for all the suggestions, folks! Dinner got postponed, so I cannot yet report back. I'm thinking Rosebud Prime might be a good choice, tho. Catch is ruined for me because I used to work in that building! :) Will let you know where we go!
