It is, and twice the size. Judging from biz yesterday afternoon, Robt will need it. Looks to be a smart move.

Adams Sr said it was a pleasure to cook on and that it was a Cadillac while the one on Western was a Volkswagen, so more of a difference than just size.

I live only a few blocks from the new location and was eager to partake again after many years. Honey1 did not disappoint! The ribs and tips were great--smoky and succulent, moist but not too fatty, with some good crispness in places. My son had the wings and declared them as good as Harold's Hyde Park. I tried them and concur! I grew up in Texas, but I find the hip Texas BBQ these days is just too smoky, overwhelming the other seasoning and the flavor of the meat, and the brisket is rarely moist. Maybe I've been in Chicago too long, but I find the Aquarium smoker method preferable--definitely smoky, but not overwhelming. And I eat much smaller portions these days, so the tips and links mini is just the right size for me. Can't wait to go back.

Stopped in to HONEY-1's new location Sunday.
Robert Adams Sr. was out front- Meeting-and-Greetin' folks...talkin shop,
mostly a Post-Church Crowd was present.....
    No seats (to eat@).
    Take-Away only.
Also- No Plastic- CASH $$$ Only.
The closest ATM is somewhere on Cottage Grove.
Mr. Adams mentioned he wants to put an ATM in there.....

Had a X-large order of Tips and Links -($19.86) both
elements were excellent (....as were the Fries- requested to be well done)
and the proper amount of BARK to the Rib-Tips- while the Sausage Links were nicely
done- but not TOO well done! Sauce on the Side- of Course-- so
I can taste the wood-smoke all up-in-dem Ribs!

OH- and speaking of SMOKE- Mr. GWiv- a "callin-you-out" from Mr. Robert Adams Sr.
When asking which lth-ers had been in- of course he mentioned SteveZ, and
a few others- and when I inquired had Mr. Adams been to "The Barn"
    to taste Mr. BBQ's product-
    he snarkly retorted-
    "Ya-Mean-The-Place-Where-He-BBQ's w/Gas??"
nyuk-nyuk....to him- it appeared rather sacrosanct-
kinda-like making Matzoh Balls with out The Schmaltz!

Oh- and BTW- his Aquarium Smoker is H U G E!!! one could fit several
    large animals inside!

Mr. Adams reports he LIKES the new spot- alot.
    Doesn't miss The North Side-
The "N-I-M-B-Y" neighbors- he couldn't please- Parking, and many other factors.
Feels better for him- $$ business is better $$- and he seems quite happy with all things!

Nyuk-nyuk is correct, no gas smokers at Barn & Company. Its of the nature of an inside joke between me and Robert, I tease him about his coleslaw he teases me about gas.........

I've invited him countless times, most BBQ guys have been to Barn & Co over the years from Sorkin to Sweet Baby to Famous Dave to Jared Leonard to Mr. Mack Sevier, still no Robert though.

Stopped in on Thursday afternoon about 3PM. Ordered a large tips & link combo. Me experience was the same as
"Hombre de Acero". In other words...perfect! I really like the links and the way they are served in chunks rather than the whole link. Perfect for nibbling on the drive home.

A women was picking up her order as I walked in and before I left, another was placing her order. Good foot traffic and easy parking should make a for a thriving business.

What I like best about the links being sliced is that coming across one as you dig your hand in for a tip is like finding a little gift.

I've heard a lot here and elsewhere about consistency issues but I'd never had anything but good luck at Honey 1. My first foray to the new location was a major disappointment. Had ribs and links. The ribs didn't have much smoke flavor and the links were like mediocre polishes. But the biggest loser for me was the candy-sweet sauce. That's not something I've ever experienced there before.

For me, even on its best days, Honey 1 was never quite up to the level of Uncle John's (always better) or Lem's (almost always better). It did have the advantage of being far closer to my north side abode. With the move, it's only six minutes closer than Lem's. It's quite possible this was my last visit.

Since both are easy striking distance from work, I did a recent head-to-head of Uncle J's (47th) and Honey 1 (43rd). Parking is easy at both though 43rd is under some construction west of the latter. Characteristically friendly staff; both places are snug, with hallway-type waiting areas, though Honey 1 has a long bench / radiator cover of a sort for leaning.

In tips-and-links, the only thing I've tried at either place, UJ is Sevier lineage as one would expect, and Honey 1 is the same Adams style we've always known. For my experiences in new and old places, these means tighter, dryer, broader tips and dense, smaller, savory links at H1. UJ manages to capture Mack's method of completely caramelizing the exterior of the tips while leaving more of a gelatinous moisture in the middle, and then chopping them thinly and forcefully so the carbonized bits get mixed in with everything in the tray. The links at UJ47 are large and I thought really delicious (I got an intensely smoked batch), but not as fiery or sagey as the original recipe served at the Uncle John's locations.

While I think I still prefer the UJ heritage, Honey 1 has a mini combo special (perhaps not always available) for something like $7, which is still a significant amount of food. UJ47 entry-level combo is $12. These are both great orders. Richton Park may have the edge on both, with the UJ original recipe links and more smoke on the tips, but while I've had a new colleagial reason to get down there a bit more, I'm happy to be able to find these two in easier reach.

Strictly as a matter of personal taste, UJ's sagey links are not to my liking. Reminds me of breakfast sausage. Prefer H1's.

Where does UJ's and H1 source their links? Are they made especially for them or are they more off-the-shelf product?

and remember - cash only. Was there a month or so ago when a guy came in to pick up a big tray and didn't realize this and he had to run around the corner to some place with an ATM. I also hope the construction on Cottage Grove is over by now as the street was blocked off. FWIW my ribs and tips combo was as good as it was back on N Western Ave - but was a bit perplexed that a phone in order that I was told would take 20 minutes . . . took another 20 minutes after I showed up 20 minutes after placing the order.

Call them. I had them cater a party for me about a week after they opened the Western Ave location and they were spot on with their recs when I told them what I was doing. Came over and set the whole thing up for me too :)

Ha, tell me about it. I asked them on the phone if they had something between small and large - like, say, a medium - and they told me they could only do small or large, then convinced me to go large, because "you don't know how hungry everyone will be." Which is unimpeachable logic. Now I've got tons of leftovers, which is a good problem to have, not least because the tips and links were as good as I've ever had from them.

Between the website being down, all that construction around there, and the 60 minutes it took me to drive home at rush hour, not to mention it being cash only, there were a few small logistical hurdles to surmount, but it was worth it. Nice steady stream of Friday night business there, too, though the immediate environs seemed oddly dark and quiet. I guess between the Cottage Grove closure and it being on a side street it kind of puts a damper on traffic, car or otherwise.

So many places are closed here and there around Thanksgiving, I wouldn't be too concerned.
