Does anybody know where you can find this dish?

They look like this:

They are so delicious but I have not been able to find them anywhere around here :(

I think the spare ribs at Kow Kow are exactly what you're looking for.

Short of making them at home, I'll have to try Kow Kow too because I've been wanting these myself. It's one of those Ameri-Chinese favorites many of us grew up on that actually seem worth seeking out (much like the egg rolls served at the same places). I have never found anything similar at Sun Wah, which shouldn't be a surprise, because I don't expect that your authentic Chinese places will serve these. At least that's what I suspect the original poster is seeking - I know I am.

Hi,

I would try China Chef in Morton Grove. While I have not ordered these, their eggrolls and wonton soup is just like I experienced in the mid-1960's.

Regards,

I've had them as carryout from China Chef a couple of times as part of their appetizer assortment. While they aren't quite as saucy as the ones in the picture you linked to, they are pretty good. I second Cathy's recommendation. I've also had the ones at Kow Kow, which are OK, but at least a step down from the ones at China Chef.

I am also not a fan of the ribs at Kow Kow, I have found them to be dry and salty.

One of my favorites is from New China Restaurant. They also have good 60s style egg rolls. but a lot of the other items are so so.
