I had been going to Cumberland Bakery on a regular basis, their seeded rye bread is one of my go-to breads, nice crust and a good amount of seeds. They offer both large & small loaves (as well as unseeded rye).

A few times per year I'll try their pastries, big moist and lots of toppings. Their streusel is quite good. I also enjoy their muffins (morning glory, and cranberry/walnut in particular)

They do make their own donuts on site. I had asked what was their big draw and most always the response was that their chocolate cake donuts are a big hit. I must be missing something as I thought very meh. This past fall however, the cider donuts were fantastic so be on the lookout for those when this fall rolls around.

I'm not really a quiche person, I've had good & bad but when I see quiche on the menu it usually is something a rarely order. One day when entering Cumberland Bakery, in their big front display window was the most delicious looking bacon quiche, big thick pieces of bacon coming out of it. Of course I picked one up. Amazing, best quiche I've ever had, so rich and VERY bacon-ey. The spinach is also a big fave of mine. Cumberland only makes quiche on Thurs & Fri, quiche are not made during July & August.

A new item that I noticed recently was a custard bismarck, really airy dough, with delicious custard and a small circle of chocolate on top. Just terrific. This item seemed to be a once in awhile item. (probably a good thing as I would go daily to get one).

Thanks for the tip on this place. I've probably driven past it a thousand times and never even realized it was there. I'll make a point of stopping in next time I'm up that way.

I just enjoyed at coconut custard packzi w/just a touch of chocolate frosting from Cumberland, wow!

I don't like chocolate on my morning pastries (with the exception of some good pain au chocolat), Cumberland uses as
a chocolate frosting that doesn't get hard/pasty so on the packzi I had this morning, it was a great touch.

Next year, dammit, I am making a special trip. This sounds heavenly and this year I have gone paczki-less. :(

ok, I'm not saying the following to rub salt in a packzi wound. :)

For an afternoon snack, my brother in law & I just finished off the following packzis: blueberry, lemon chiffon, German chocolate. All top notch, they do a GREAT job with the fillings & paczki dough.

If I wasn't driving up north to Wisconsin tonight, I'd be at Cumberland Bakery tomorrow morning to have more.

yeah, she wasn't too pleased when I came in early on a Tuesday & asked for a couple dozen. I'm not quite sure why they don't make more if they are selling out.

that I don't know. I do get their rye bread (choice of seeded & no seed) and think it is VERY good.

another made to order item, maple & bacon donut. A maple glazed donut with large thick pieces of bacon on top. I'm normally not a "dressed up" donut guy but it was tasty & bacon savory.

Hi, they make donuts TO ORDER? That's amazing. Also, you said "Another made to order item", what else is made to order there?!

I don't know of a single other bakery that does this. Inconsistent freshness of product due to a very short shelf life is the number one problem with most of them, so this is very exciting to me!

Basically most everything they make I'm assuming, let me explain. For an office treat, I like to bring in 4-5 dozen donuts every now & then into work. When I've stated I'll have 5 dozen donuts, I'm nearly always met with the question, "did you place an order in advance?". I get it, it isn't a large bakery and someone walking in first thing when they open and buying what I'm guessing is a larger % of donuts than normal might not allow donuts for customers later.

When I asked via phone if they had the maple glazed w/bacon, I was informed, no but place an order for how many I wanted. I placed an order for a 1/2 dozen and voila they were made for the next day. In the past I've placed orders for cider donuts, the upthread mentioned awesome quiche and the maple bacon donut. So per the above, I'm guessing you can place an order for most anything they make.

Ah ok, makes sense. Sorry I thought you meant you walked in, ordered a donut, and they fried it right then. I was about to drop everything and drive over there asap. Still sounds amazing though.
