We travel to the Windy City often and enjoy trying a new restaurant each time.
I picked Zed’s 451 for a trip next week. I have never tried any of the all-you-can-eat meat places in River North.
Is Zed’s worth the trip?
My wife picked Purple Pig. Read this place is real good.

Here's a thread with more information about Zed 451 as well as other Brazilian steakhouses around town: Best Brazilian Steakhouse In Chicago

FYI, according to the restaurant's founders, "the name Zed 451 was derived from a combination of the last letter of the English alphabet and the degrees Fahrenheit at which fire starts." It's not named after some dude named Zed :)

With that in mind, maybe one of the friendly mods could rename this thread from "Zed's 451" to "Zed 451"...or perhaps even merge it with the Brazilian Steakhouse thread?

Well, if its a choice between the two, Purple Pig wins hands down, though of course they're entirely different types of places.

As far as churrascarias go, I'm a traditionalist and prefer a more traditional churrascaria. Still, Zed 451 serves a certain purpose.

We were going to both. My wife is leery of the al-you-can-eat churrascaria places. I have walked by all the ones in River North but never have eaten at one. They look like they are geared for the real tourist. Looking forward to eating at the Purple Pig.

You'll enjoy both; glad you're going to Purple Pig, especially. Have a great time!

A few of us from work did dinner at Zed 451 last night at the Restaurant Week price ($33) and had a really rather wonderful time. The service is wonderful - friendly, attentive in a casual way that's nice for an afterwork decompression dinner. It was also handy as one of our four had to arrive late and with the buffet arrangement, the rest of us could eat and yet not be courses ahead of her.

The food is actually quite good - with particular nods to the buttermilk sirloin which is stellar. We fought over whether the pears or pineapple on the buffet was better and all enjoyed the jalapeno corn bread. While I normally lean towards other dining options, I really like the way Zed's buffet is made up of really tasty yet light options - lots of salads, charcuterie and cheeses, fruits, etc so you can indulge without ending up overloaded. The RW dessert was a flourless chocolate cake with apricot sorbet and cheesecake icecream and delicious!

Definitely a good option for a fun meal with colleagues.
