Made my first stop in to Bunny this weekend. I had the soft scrambled egg tartine with cheddar and added shaved truffle, a canele, coffee, and mushroom tea. All incredible: delicious, perfectly executed, served promptly and with a smile. Generous shaving of truffle. Crunchy toast by not all crumbs. Canele with beautiful texture and color on the outside, but good balance of crumb and custard on the inside.

If I hadn't been headed almost immediately to another event featuring food, I would have ordered more substantial food. I can't wait to get back and try everything, but in particular the rotating dutch oven and the grizzly burger.

Having sampled many of Chef's breads, jams, tartines during her pop-ups, I can tell you with confidence that you can't go wrong with any of the toasts tartines. I have a strong feeling the same is true from the other composed dishes, I just haven't sampled them myself.

I arrived at 12p on a Sunday. All loafs and boules were gone. There were 4 donuts left and they were all gone by 1p. There had been approximately 5 canele left, and they were gone by 1:30p. In short, get there no later than noon if you really want the best selection.

There is seating for approx 6-8 people at a counter along one wall. I also overhead that they worked out a deal with Bowtruss next door that you can eat the food in there with no obligation to purchase anything (though maybe ask about that to confirm). They also did a steady stream of takeout, with the caveat that I did hear them say that there were one or two items they wouldn't do that way because they wouldn't hold up in transit.

All in all, I'm excited that Bunny is open and I have a place to get my mushroom tea and nibbles on.

I also stopped in on Sunday at 3 and they were basically closing up (had not checked the hours, but I was in the area).

Chef was there and confirmed that they were sold out of pretty much everything by 1. She did say that you will have no problem getting what you want during the week.

Yeah. This place is good. It's like our much-missed Jonathan from Bad Wolf added a bunch of savory stuff. Not sure where you'd sit for your charred octopus and gnocchi with truffles, but my biscuit sandwich and gouge're were damn good today.

I ate multiple "courses" Sunday on my little stool at the counter they set up. Plenty of space for my grub and also my reading material. Between that and the green light to sit and eat at Bowtruss next door without having to make an additional purchase, there's decent space for your Dutch oven or octopus.

Anyone been to or know anything about "WunderPOP" ? How do they turn the Bunny space into a "12 seat fine dining restaurant" ? I was at the bakery this weekend and there is room for maybe 6 people (squeezed in) against the wall, some sitting on literal plastic crates.

During bakery hours the non-kitchen section of the venue needs to have open space for people to line up to order and wait for the hot dishes to be made after ordering. WunderPOP is held during after hours - so I would think they put a communal table in the center of that space. Should be enough room to comfortably seat twelve since there will not be any other customers present during WunderPOP.

Stopped by Bunny, the micro bakery this morning. They were closed for repairs but Iliana graciously gave me a cup of coffee and posed for a picture. Looking forward to a return visit.

Just got an email from the original Kickstarter project stating bunny is permanently closed. I had planned my first trip in last weekend but they were closed until further notice. Sad to hear, it looks like they were pumping out wonderful food.

I've been curious for months as to what went so awry so fast at Bunny. This piece from today's Crain's explains the whole story:

"In January 2015, soon after ("self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur" Phil Tadros) told investors to write off their investment in Oyster Pail, he announced he was partnering with Michelin-starred chef Iliana Regan, partner of Elizabeth Restaurant, to open Bunny the Microbakery. But that project, too, was beset by delays when Regan couldn't get required licensing because Tadros hadn't obtained city construction permits for the build-out, sources say.

Tadros responds that in the process of converting the space from an oyster bar into a bakery, 'I tried to make some modifications that really needed to be redrafted and submitted under a new entity, so I tried to help and open quickly to help turn the lost project around, and it took longer.'

When it finally opened more than six months late, Bunny almost immediately fell short on cash. The bakery closed within three months, a high-profile embarrassment for Regan, who declines to comment."

The accounting practices described in the article -- moving money to and from distinct businesses with different owners -- (if true) would have me running away from him real fast. I have a feeling I know how this story is going to end.

I just read that same article during my post-lunch visit to the "library". Here's hoping that Budlong Chicken doesn't get caught up in the same type of tawdry shenanigans. I know rubbbqco is a good businessman and is hopefully financing his nascent chicken empire independently of Tadros.

As a kickstarter contributor to Bunny, I want to make it clear that Chef Regan went way above and beyond to make things right when the rug was pulled out from under her and the reward that was originally pledged to us could not be delivered. What she offered (and I declined, out of respect for her) was most certainly of greater financial value than the original premium.

As for this other guy, he's always seemed like a Class-A scumbag and the Crain's piece just confirms what many of us have suspected for quite some time.

Man, I hope so. I just posted in the Budlong thread that Jonathan Zaragoza has left the Budlong staff as of today.

I second that, ronnie. We still had rewards due from Bunny and a reservation at Wunderpop when it suddenly closed and Chef Regan went way above and beyond to get us taken care of and set up at Elizabeth to make up for it.

And if you not receive a reward for the original Kickstarter project, Chef Regan will make good on them now.

Definitely disappointing, I was just planning a trip there given that they had just reopened. I wonder what changed........

In light of recent events, that seems unlikely but perhaps she'd agree to do something via Elizabeth for folks who were loyal enough to support this ill-fated venture.

I would guess Kitsune was the driver of all this. Without Kitsune, Bunny probably didn’t make sense in the space.

I donated to the kickstarter and in their email, they committed to fulfilling any outstanding rewards.

I had also purchased their month of ramen kits for July and notified me that a refund will be processed in a few days.

This group has been nothing but great, so I'll take their word for it.
