But not many Greenwood at Dempster.

My conclusion since no one can face that spot it has to be a cursed location. Kinda like those restaurants in front of Home Depot on Lake Cook in Deerfield.

And Dempster in general is a kiss of death.

The Warbler is set to open January 23. Gather is great so I'm looking forward to the addition to the neighborhood!

    Honey's:

Despite an automated phone message saying that Honey’s was closed for renovation and remodeling, a former employee said Wednesday that the entire staff was actually let go last week and that the restaurant, and attached bar concept, The Hive, are closed.

This probably doesn't belong in this thread, but here goes anyway. From the Honey's article above:

“I think there are too many restaurants in Chicago, and it’s hard to stay open when everyone is doing the same thing in the same area,” Smyth said.

Am I the only one that thinks that maybe if restaurants would open in neighborhoods other that Fulton Market/West Loop (like is seems like 90% of the recent notable restaurants have opened) that they may have a better chance? There's a whole city here - time to start paying attention to other areas again.

There hasn't been much of a change in the restaurant scene in the year or so since Honey's opened so I doubt its closing is a function of oversaturation.

I do agree that there's an "if you build it they will come" need in some less-served areas that could be filled with better-quality spots. I'm in the extreme NW side and my closest go-to spots, Libertad and Bryn Mawr Breakfast Club seem to draw consistent crowds with offerings that would be welcome in any neighborhood. I get the expense of opening a restaurant lends itself to go to hotspots but I also appreciate that some of that can be offset by cheaper rents in underserved areas.

No, it is a function of rising supply and rapidly falling demand.
But these veterans restaurant McMansion developers seem to be blind leading blind.

Meat & Potato Eatery is opening at 927 Rand Road in Lake Zurich, in the shopping center with the Binny's, Aldi, and DMV.

Also, Carlos Mexican Grill & Seafood is opening in a location of the damned at Ela Rd & Rt. 22 in Lake Zurich. I think that location has been four or five restaurants since my in-laws moved out this way in the early '00s and I started working out here in '07.

Also, it looks like there is a new place going in at 5007 West Irving Park [ETA: former Nite Cap spot] called The Foundation Tavern and Grill. Window and building signage is up, façade looks good, but windows still papered over.

I used to be in a rock band called Acidic Pickles. We thought our music was kosher but critics politely denounced us as "an acquired taste." :(

    Per the Tribune -
Korean fried chicken chain BonChon is opening their second Chicagoland-area location in Glenview "at the end of January."

The address provided however, of "1615 N. Milwaukee Ave", is the same space as So Gong Dong, a Korean restaurant still operating from everything I have seen.

That strip mall if Korean food heaven, with at least 5 - 6 different restaurants, each specializing in a different aspect of Korean cuisine.

Checked out the Wooden Nickel tonight, which is in the old space of Northdown. They pretty much changed nothing in terms of decor, although the menu is all new. Pretty standard bar fare and Northdown's vegan/vegetarian-friendly items are gone.

Still a good bar though and the food was fine.

Riverview Tavern, on the corner of Roscoe and Damen, is temporarily closed due to a "water main break" (meant to take a photo of the sign on the door). There's butcher paper and permits up in the windows. I have been meaning to write it up for awhile. There were no dates on when it would reopen. Food is nothing fantastic, but it does sit on a prominent corner of Roscoe Village.

Anyone have the scoop on Mother Cluckers in Palatine? Seemed like there was a lot of cars in the parking lot last night around 5:45, but I didn't see any fanfare about an official opening. Maybe a soft opening?
