Tikkawala, the fairly new casual Indian restaurant in the West Loop (1258 W. Jackson) is closing, purportedly temporarily to tweak the business model.

Sula's write-up sums up the dillema of giving a place time to hit their stride, while risking missing out on a place that can be gone in a flash.

Having walked by the place a couple months ago, I was shocked how small it is. SW of most W. Loop foot traffic, this was very foreseeable.

Thanks. The attached article is really about Goldyburgers which, thankfully, is still hanging around.

You do need to love hometown reporting, which includes this gem:

Goldyburgers faces stiff competition from other sports bars and burger joints. Some are chains with million-dollar advertising budgets. Others are what Sullivan calls "brass and glass" chains, like Bennigans, with their fake Irish pub ambience.

Um, someone should tell them that Bennigans is no longer a thing.

Amazing - a chain that had little reason to exist failed once and now they're back for a 2nd run.

Attempted to go there tonight. At 6:30 all tables and bar stools were taken and at least 20 people were standing among the tables drinking. This is clearly not the place to go eat dinner and have a good brew. This is a place to have a brew and a little food.

Well, it might depend the timing. Friday night prime time probably isn't going to play out like a weeknight.

Certainly you are correct, though as a newly opened place it has been pretty crowded during the week when I walk by.

What I didn't like was the mass of people standing amongst those sitting and eating. I shouldn't have been surprised by this as it is called Ravinia Brewing Company - they are giving priority to people drinking over people eating. I guess I was just hoping for something different.

Gayety's Chocolates & Ice Cream abruptly closed both its Lansing and Schererville locations "for remodeling."
A voicemail recording at the Lansing ice cream parlor and chocolate shop on Ridge Road in downtown Lansing said it was closed for remodeling. The owners did not respond to messages and the website was down, which is often not a good sign.

The beloved local chain has a long history dating back to 1920 when the chocolate shop opened in Chicago. The company
filed for bankruptcy in 2014 but remained open after restructuring its debt.

    Good morning Gayety’s customers,

You may have noticed we have had our doors closed in recent weeks. We were trying to find a solution to keep the doors of Gayety’s Chocolates & Ice Cream open. Unfortunately, after 98 great years, we have officially closed. We want to give a big thank you to all our customers for a wonderful 98 years! It has been an absolute pleasure serving this community!

Wishbone on Washington (don't know about the Lincoln Ave. location) serves that type of Chicken (country) fried steak, when they have it as a special. I think it used to be Wednesdays, but I moved my office away from there over 10 years ago, so things might have changed. Call ahead for CFS special day.

October 29 appears to be the opening date at 161 N. Jefferson Street, but it’s not finalized. Crews have given the former Bin 36 wine bar space more than a facelift. The space is a little smaller than the restaurant at Washington which closed on October 14.

Duffy and former Grace general manager Michael Muser plan to open a new restaurant on the ground floor of Fulton West, an office building in the city’s Fulton Market district, according to people familiar with the deal.

Eater reports Lincoln Square’s Nick’s Pizza & Pub to Shutter After One Year

From my post on June 10, 2017, in Openings, etc. thread:

Here is a possibility: Like the Milwaukee Avenue corridor, many residents of Lincoln Square come from outside Chicagoland where crispy, tavern-style pizza is virtually unknown. Also, the neighborhood is affluent and perhaps many residents would rather eat Neopolitan or “artisan” (Steve Dolinsky’s term) pies than old time-y Chicago thin crust pizza.

I live in the neighborhood by Nick's, and we really liked it as a family joint.

I liked the pizza, but I'm not sure it was destination pizza; although their double layer pizza was pretty unique and tasty. I will say that I much preferred it to Lou Malnati's, which has a popular location by Nick's (admittedly, I'm in the minority that thinks Malnati's is trash pizza). Also, the rehab they did on the place was really great. Nick's was really well done on the inside.

Maybe it was too family friendly. They do that thing where every table has complimentary peanuts, and you can throw the shells on the ground. My boys loved that, but I could see that being a turn-off for non-family diners (and any group with a peanut allergy).

Here is the email message I received this afternoon, a little different than what Tribune is reporting:

    "bellyQ

After six wonderful years in the West Loop, we're closing our doors Tuesday, October 30th. Private events are still being honored through March 2019.

Your support has meant everything to us. So, thank you. Our sister restaurant urbanbelly is still open for business next door, and at 1542 N. Damen Ave. in Wicker Park.

We hope to see you soon for some ramen and frozen Kirin. Stay tuned for Ramenfest 2019 announcements.
    Cheers.
