Eat A Pita at Halsted & Belmont closed last week apparently. Number is disconnected, website down, Grubhub listing gone, and the owner has posted responses on Yelp thanking everyone for 30 years of patronage. I will miss the daily homemade soups for sure but I never had a bad meal in the last 24 years I've been going there.

I truly don't understand the logic of the location of this place. It's a stone's throw away from:
    Once Upon A Bagel
    1888 1st St.

If the new place is 1/2 as good as New York bagel and Bialy on Dempster, it will be better than Once upon a bagel and will get some of my business.

Another new bbq joint opens. Looks like the real deal. Beef fat frys!

The owners of the recently shuttered Milwalky Trace have reopened a new barbecue restaurant in its place.

Well, if they really are serving “ribs so delicate they’re barely clinging to the bone.” I won’t need to make the trip.

That video on Oscar Lee's page makes the brisket look amazing. I had City BBQ in Deerfield the last two days and both visits were excellent. I am thrilled to have a finally BBQ place like this close to home (even if it is a chain). Oscar Lee's is not too far either. I'll check that out soon.

Happened to walk by Oscar Lee's Barbecue today on my way to the Cook Library in Libertyville, and I plan to be up there again on Thursday morning for the farmer's market, so I'll see if it works out to check it out.

Ronnie, you seem negative about this place and City Barbecue based on what you hear or presume about how they cook, and you may be right about all that, but what happened to not commenting about a place til you'd actually tried it?

Simply put, if one's idea of great ribs is meat falling off the bone, there's no need for me to try their bbq.

I get that, because fall-off-the-bone more often than not means boiled. That point's been made abundantly clear on LTH. But so has just simply refraining from commenting on places one hasn't actually eaten at.

I don't understand. Can you point to some posts of mine commenting on places I haven't eaten at? If I have, it's surely been a long time since, because I think I've learned my lesson about that. I know you think of me as just a suburban housewife who doesn't get out much, but I'll put my passport and hiking boots up against anyone on LTH any day of the week.

I love Smoque and I love many of their sides but if the sides were the best thing they did there, I wouldn't be nearly as big a fan. BBQ is about meat. Not sides. Not sauce.

Tipsy Cow Cantina, the Tex-Mex concept run by the BrgrBelly family has decided to return to their core competencies; burgers, fries, and beer.
They are closed for the reversion and will reopen Tuesday June 12, 2018.

We tried Tipsy Cow twice and tried their beefs 3-4 times and it just did not work for us. I’m looking forward to their fantastic burgers available within a 200m walk of my house again!

The Zachi at Belmont & Southport has closed. There's been a public notice in the old Flattop Grill space (which has been vacant for 2 years) that they are tearing down the building, so it may be related to that. Their other location on Broadway is still open and they've removed the Belmont location from their website.

One of the restaurant’s longtime chefs, a worker who’s good friends with Opart co-founder Mookda Punmit, will open Green Leaf Thai Cuisine hopefully later this month at 4658 N. Lincoln Avenue.

Text indicates that Green Leaf Thai Cuisine will be in the Opart space, which is at 4658 N. Western. I am not sure whether 4658 N Lincoln is the parking lot where the Lincoln Square farmers' markets are, the building just south of there which houses a health club, or some CTA property. I hope that the rest of Eater's details are more accurate than the address.

The familiar Lincoln Square space where Opart Thai House served customers for 34 years is once more serving tiger cry, pad Thai, and a few new menu items as Green Leaf Thai Cuisine opened its doors on Monday.

Eater kept up its record for accurate addresses by using 4658 and 4659 North Western in different parts of the story. The one on the west side of Western is correct. The east side has a plaza alongside the Western Brown Line stop.

Green Leaf Thai was open late this morning and had a list of lunch specials posted in the window as I was coming home from the Lincoln Square farmers market around 11:20.

Driving home this afternoon I noticed that Bamyan Kabob has opened in the former Pita Kabob space.

Quote from owner on Yelp listing:
Bamyan Kabob is the Mediterranean, middle eastern and European Zabiha Halal restaurant. It has comfortable interior and nice service. We would like you to come to visit us and try our delicious food.
    Free parking is available.

Web site is not very informative; menu pictures are nearly unreadable but seem to represent a culinary mishmash from shawarma to pelmeni. Those who have been to Pita Kabob know that there are very few parking spaces.

Items such as beshbarmak, shorpo, and lagman point to yet another ex-Soviet Central Asian place, albeit with some standard Middle Eastern items. May be worth a try.

The previous occupant of the space, Pita Kabob, had a specials board with a few central Asian dishes, and the servers generally appeared to be central Asian.

Cilantro probably is correct about the new place. I suspect that ordering correctly may be important and certainly would want to give them a while to get the operation shaken down. The Tony's supermarket a few blocks south on Lincoln appears to have a fair number of central Asian customers, so there probably is a potential customer base in the area.
