My buddy from Cincy is coming in this weekend and wants to meet for pizza. They're staying in Hillside. "We have a giodarnos here so want to try your exclusives" he says. Where can we take him? HALP

Q's is very good - if they're staying in Hillside this is your answer
    Gulliver's is good
    Fox's is just plain bad

If you enjoy East Coast style pizza, check out Little Pop's in Lisle. The guy is from New Jersey. They also have great subs.

... or you could take a half hour and get the absolute best...

    Vito & Nick's Pizzeria
    8433 S Pulaski Rd, Chicago
    (773) 735-2050

I can also second the recommendation for Q’s.

I had Q's in 2009 (I found my old post) and it was very good, but I'd probably make the time to head to Vito and Nick's if I had a special guest and they were in Hillside. Don't forget to go to Chickie's for a beef.

Can't go wrong with either Vito and Nick's or Q Restaurante for both great pizza and old-school ambience.

For authentic Chicago-style deep dish - a "Chicago exclusive" style that you can't get elsewhere - you can never go wrong with Lou Malnati's. The pizza is delicious and it's consistent from one location to another. The nearest locations to Hillside for carryout and delivery are in Elmhurst and Broadview. If you want to dine in, the closest is in Oak Park, still only three miles from Hillside.

Of course! Malnati's is usually the go-to for my out of town guests to try the best deep dish (and my favorite pizza of all) - but only dine in. It's never as good when it's taken home. Always order with buttercrust!

    Not long after the...

    Lou Malnati's Pizzeria
    1038 Lake St, Oak Park

... had opened, we decided to see how it was. Ordered deep dish with crumbled sausage.

One of the owners, a gray haired gent, stopped by, just working the crowd, and I happened to mention that while the continuous layer of sausage was good it was a little over the top.

He mentioned he prefers a thin crust with easy sausage.

Straight shooter, I liked him. :)

I like Malnati's thin crust sausage pizza a lot. I think it is the best of the thin crust pizza options around me.

Q's in Hillside all the way. A simple large thin crust sausage will do every time. It gets a little crowded around dinner time, and also on the weekends. They use to have a two for one pizza deal on Wednesday, but they may have changed the day. You can never go wrong with Q's. It's a true neighborhood institution. It's the one place that everybody from the old neighborhood comes home to after they have moved away.
