Whereas I don't like much else there, El Presidente on Ashland has good nachos. Appropriate maybe because nachos aren't Mexican. My wife loves their menudo and beef soup too. Open 24/7 365, favorite of cops and musicians.

El Presidente
2558 N. Ashland Ave

Could you be a bit more specific, both as to what you're looking for exactly, and where?

Shooting from the hip, not northside, but the ones at Nuevo Leon are kind of legendary. The fact that there are six in the order should give you an idea.

Just looking for tortilla chips with toppings.

Thanks for the tip on Nuevo Leon. I've never tried their nachos, but maybe it's about time I do!

Toons Bar makes a good version, big too. Ask for it with pulled pork as a topping. :)

Carne Asada Nachos - Cuetzala (or were they al pastor?)
Image
These things are much larger than they appear in the photo. Each chip is 1/4 of a tortilla (fried fresh for each order). The Pico de Gallo is also made fresh.

Chicago, IL 60686

I like the Chachos at La Pasadita (the southern one on Ashland and I think Elston has them too)

It's chips, their amazing carne asada, cheese and salsa. HUGE portions for a reasonable price. No guac, lettuce, jalapenos etc to mess things up, nice and simple:)

A friend turned us onto the Cuban Nachos at Cafe Laguardia on Armitage. Very tasty, not exactly Mexican in style, they come already assembled, on fried plantains with guacamole, meat, cheese, etc. They do have some Mexican dishes on their menu for people who think Cuban should be Mexican.

2111 West Armitage Avenue
Chicago, IL 60647

If you don't want "traditional" nachos, I'm a fan of the nachos at Crew Bar, on Broadway at Lawrence. The pulled pork variety is most excellent.

Pulled pork nachos at Small Bar. I believe all three locations serve them.

I had great veggie nachos at Handlebar, on North about 2300w. Not overloaded with salt, quality ingredients including taco meat style seiten.
