The last dozen oyster and the last six soft shells went into the trash. The quality of the extremely perishable sea food is unacceptable at this time for me to shop at Grasch's anymore.
Sad, the meat and poultry is very good if expensive but as the demand for seafood increases, I am seeing an overall drop in quality from every purveyor.

An example of good marketing. We had a blind tasting of Usingers Veal Weiners, Vienna Beef hot dog, Nathan's natural casing and the perrenial Oscer Meyer
. I firmaly expected the Usingers to win but the Vienna dog was THE clear favorite including mine. PIcked up a 10# box of Vienna Natural Casing last week at the factory store ($51), not cheap but the difference is there.

I used to always buy seafood from there and it was really high quality. Then I bought a 1/2 dozen oysters and every single one was bad and I haven't been back for seafood since then. I stick with Empire Fish and Sendik's for all of my non-frozen seafood.

Sorry to be lare but i cleared them out of the few
Allen brothers packages. They did have a lot of the
Chicago style and the extra long grill franks were $1.
My sons favorite there are the ham sticks, but i rarely see them

I ended up going over there at lunch since it is not far from where I work. They had restocked them and there were like 4-5 packages in the box. Then the lady came out with the restocking cart and dumped a dozen more into the box so as of about 1:30pm today there were about a dozen left, after I purchased 4 packs of them. I also bought some smoked Polish, which I like to have around for an easy lunch. Total damage for 64 mini dogs and the polish was around 11 bucks.

Now I just need to find some mini buns.

I finally got to the new Cermak Fresh Market. The meat department is good enough that it might be a worthwhile stop for people visiting from Chicago.

For Milwaukeeans, I note that it is very near GFS, which also has meat at good prices if you're prepared to buy in quantity. I love their Tavern cheese spread, too, and they are a great place to buy paper goods.

Right now they have coupons for 2-1/2 dozen eggs free with a $30 purchase.

I went to the market yesterday, and I absolutely agree. It's a terrific market! We got there at 3 p.m., which may be on the late side, as some vendors were already packing up, but there was still plenty of stuff to choose from and a number of stalls were marking things down at the end of the day.

Not being an early-morning person, I love the hours of this market, and the fact that they encourage the farmers to pick the produce in the morning before bringing them to the afternoon market that day.

Prices were good. There were all kinds of vegetables, though tomatoes, peppers, summer squash and sweet corn dominated; many herbs; and bedding plants. Not much fruit, but that may be because of this season's disastrous weather. Outside the market proper somebody had set up on the street with blueberries and peaches they said came from Tennessee. Also a variety of food trucks, but they were also shutting down by 5 p.m.

I will be back.
