    Hi,

In the Sun Times yesterday, there was a small announcement on At last, homemade Frango Mints are back, South Side candymaker Cupid Candies producing them for Macy's.

Whenever a Frango Mint afficionado has an opportunity to try these, I'd be interested how they compared to the original. The few I had from Pennsylvania, just seemed not quite the same. I have the same impression about Fannie Mae Candies as well.

While some say you can never go home again, I am hoping those who love this candy best find it to their liking. If not, that will be useful to know, too.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I was under the impression that Macy's said, or at least hinted, that they'd be returning production of Frango Mints to the 11th floor of the State Street store. So, I guess this counts as "close, but no cigar."

It was announced quite a while ago that Cupid would produce them.. Here's another article that explains the process more fully.

Note that it's only the mint flavor being made by Cupid.

Being the holidays, and in the medical profession, there are boxes of Frango Mints all over the place. :D I have to say, these may say Frango Mints, but they sure don't taste like what I remember. The most obvious missing componet to me is the hit of salt.

Garrett Brands, the owner of Garrett Popcorn Shops, will buy the Frango chocolate brand from Macy's for a undisclosed sum, the companies announced Monday. The purchase would return the Frango brand, once the trademark premium chocolate brand of Marshall Field's, to local ownership.

Frango Mints were never on our radar as we preferred Fannie Mae's Mint Meltaways. That being said, I never turned one down. IMHO, Garret's makes the best popcorn so the merger may be a good one. Do we see Frango popcorn in our future?
