Washy Wonders -- for washing plastic bags

We dump an estimated 3,960,000 tons of plastic bags, sacks and wraps into landfills every year. I do admit to feeling some guilt about that profligacy. So whenever I use a bag, I attempt to use it at least a second time. Sometimes, however, the previous contents are so funky that I don’t want to put fresh food in the same bag. And placing bags them directly into the dishwasher doesn’t always do the job.

Every day, I use re-sealable plastic bags – and every now and again, I get a product to test.

Last month, I was sent a pair of Washy Wonders [http://www.washywonder.com/]. These paddle-tipped wands hold open used plastic bags in the dish washer so that water and soap can splash up and cleanse the bag.

To test this product, I intentionally messed up a plastic bag: I smashed a rotten tomato in there, emptied the solid parts out, then dribbled in some corn oil. Then I put the bag over the Washy Wonders and turned on the dish washer.

The result: the bag came out pretty darn clean. In fact, it looked almost new; there was not a bit of oil or other residue left inside. I was impressed…and now I feel a little bit better about using plastic bags.

If you are looking for a home (and 2nd use) for the store-type plastic bags, feel free to save them for me--they are my go-to pet waste removal system--I am always mystified by people who buy bags for this purpose--but with 3 dogs, I'm always scrounging for them. I will be happy to collect them from you whenever you get a good stash of them!
