Does anyone know where to get lamingtons in Chicago? TipsyCake apparently used to have them (I found my old comment related to buying a coupon via TwoBuckDuck, that was a blast from the past) but Tipsy is no longer. The Googles have not been helpful.

They're actually pretty easy to make. There are a million recipes online, and you can even use store-bought cake or cake mix. Then dip squares in chocolate and roll in coconut. Even in Australia, where they're sold everywhere, a lot of folks just make them at home.

Otherwise, there are places online that sell commercial lamington's from Australia (e.g., https://theaustralianfoodshop.com/)

But, alas, know of of no local stores that sell them.

Lamington lovers, rejoice! I found a suitable replacement.

I was looking for interesting cookies of various cultures that are available in Chicago bakeries. A Google search of Serbian cookies brought me to the web site for Sandy's Bakery and Deli in Jefferson Park. The pictures and the variety looked amazing so I went to check it out yesterday.

First, let me tell you it was quite a feat to focus on the cookie section, as the smell of smoked meats had me floating into the place by my nose like a cartoon dog.

Anyway, there is a Croatian/Serbian "cakelet" called Cuvapci, which is essentially a Lamington. I purchased yesterday and only ate today but it was soft and moist inside. It's been at least a decade since I've had a Lamington from TipsyCake, but to my memory, this fits the bill.

Searching LTH for Sandy's, it appears they have some great meats and once had a decent restaurant (now closed) in Norwood Park. I plan to make several trips back to fully appreciate this place.
