(Note: I have no business affiliation with WaSC or Groupon.)

I saw this morning, and thought people here might be interested to know, that today's Groupon deal is $4 for $10 worth of food at Wiener and Still Champion. You can buy the Groupon here http://www.groupon.com/chicago/ before midnight today (Thursday, October 14th).

For those of you who don't know, Groupon is a website with daily deals on miscellaneous stuff around the city (food, haunted houses, laser hair treatments - all kinds of stuff). Each deal has a minimum number of people who need to buy the coupon/deal before the deal is "on". If too few people sign up, then you aren't charged and no one gets that deal. The Groupon for Wiener and Still Champion is already guaranteed as "on", since enough people have purchased it. I've purchased Groupons before, and they have always worked flawlessly for me.

I bought two $25 gift certificates to the Brat Stop in Kenosha (Yes, it is my sons favorite place) for $6.00 and two $50 general gift certificates for $10.00. Just go to couponcabin.com and click on the link that will direct you to restaurant.com and enter the promotion code 'Deal'. I plan on using one of these certificates this weekend.

Posting this only because I thought it's interesting. Taco Joint is in the same space that Masu Izakaya was in, and this might entice some people (i.e. ME!) to go try it out.

$7 for $15 Worth of Mexican Fare and Drinks at Taco Joint in Lincoln Park

Just visited the soon-to-be-closed Borders at Randhurst -- all cookbooks 40% off.
I snagged the last copy of Under Pressure by Keller.

Two Beard nominated restaurants' books are there: Bottega (Chiarello) and Noma. I've already got a Chiarello book, and I don't think I should pick up another Molecular Gastronomy book until I've tried a few more of Alinea's (besides, Noma's Nordic ingredients are even harder to get a hold of than Achatz' starches and texturizers).

Selection is still pretty good, your mileage may vary at other Borders.

I just had to mention one of Gilt Chicago's deals of the day: For $28,000, you can get married at Blackbird on one of several Sundays in August-December.

The package, which is good for up to 75 guests, includes:

• Private access to entire Blackbird restaurant
• Pre-wedding tasting for two
• Standing wedding ceremony location
• Cocktail reception for one hour with passed hors d’oeuvres
• Five-course tasting menu with wine pairings
• Premium open bar for six hours
• Three-tier wedding cake created by Blackbird’s Pastry Chef, Patrick Fahy
• Dilly Lily floral arrangements: two bouquets, two boutonnieres, two focal arrangements for décor and floral accents for each table
• Location for post-dinner reception and dancing
• DJ and use of in-house music system

Includes all taxes and gratuities. Must be redeemed on specified date.

It almost makes me want to get married! Anyone interested? ;)

Package already out of date--Paul Kahan just posted on FB that he's looking for a new pastry chef because Fahy is moving on...

Still sounds like fun though :D

I'm personally really excited to try out Fogon in my old neighborhood.

And the Reader Real Deal has 50 vouchers for their Thu 8/18 "underground dining event" -- which includes a meal by Chef Leo Garcia plus a wine pairing. It's an $80 value for $40, and is available for purchase now!

Our latest food-related deal just went up, and it's already going fast.

50% off a unique 6-course Bistro Voltaire dining event with 6 wine pairings on Wed 10/12 at 7pm!

Enjoy this exquisite menu during a unique underground dining experience at Chicago's newest French bistro, Bistro Voltaire. This meal will be personal and exclusive as the maximum occupancy is only 50. Chef Colin Beaumier, former executive chef of the Whitehall Hotel, will present a seasonal menu with wine pairings from across the Languedoc region, the largest wine producing region in France.

More details available at its Reader Real Deal page.

LTH GNR Semiramis is not up for renewal this time... but it *does* have a Groupon (again) today! Which is quite excellent news!

http://www.groupon.com/r/uu8217324

Their crispy-skin chicken, Ive found, is typically very much worth the price of admission (along with a few of their sandwiches, especially the lamb..and, of course, the fact that theyre one of the few BYOB Middle-Eastern spots on that Kedzie stretch..)

It's not their turn...places renew for 2 years--they'll be up for renewal next year.
