Hi-

New to the forum.

I have this memory from my childhood, in the 60s, of going to a restaurant with my family, and there was a big stuffed blue swordfish mounted on the wall. The restaurant would have been in the north west suburbs, probably near Park Ridge or Niles or Northbrook. My dad thinks it might have been Allgauer's Fireside Inn on Lincoln. I'm thinking it could even have been the Wagon Wheel. Anybody out there who can identify my fish?

JohnO1961,

If you look at my website, chicagopc.info, under Restaurants, go down to the newer section of restaurants and look at the Allgauer's card. On the right side of the one card, there is a fireplace and what appears to be a large stuffed fish over it. It looks more like a shark, though. Maybe this is what you remember?

Thanks.

I did see that card and for a moment I thought I had found it, but 1) I don't think we ever went to the restaurant on Ridge road and 2) I know it wasn't a shark. We went to the restaurant several times and I remember being really interested in this giant blue swordfish. My kids were watching a cartoon last night that featured a swordfish and this memory came flooding back.

Love the postcards, by the way.

John O
