Cathy it looks like you are the brainchild of something that has gained popularity. Does this mean this thread will finally die and have a real world ending?

This just has to be, as in "By popular demand..."

One Thanksgiving, I made stuffing using sliders and did not tell anyone. My wife made her normal stuffing. The stuffing made from sliders were gone in a heartbeat.

White Castle potluck? I am so in.

The implication, the subtext if you will, of many of the past ten or so posts, is that if the eaters knew it was WC they were eating they'd still be barfing.

Does mere thinking make it so? Or not? It might, you know. Lemme think on that.

Still in for this event, which promises be awesome.

Awesome. I feel that this thread is finally heading to a climactic kumbaya moment at the pot luck. What a great narrative arc.

What we really need to do, since this is a far superior product anyway, is make stuffing etc with ARBY's.

So I haven't heard anything on the smorgasbord of WC...what happened?

Have you noticed it is rather hot outside? If you want to take the ball and run with this, for for it! :)

I was waiting for cooler weather where a WC cook-off would not seem like an indurance effort.

Makes sense. But if we do it now I can make Slider Frozen Custard. I call it Slusterd. :P

But really, I can wait.

If you put goat butter in it you could call it "Glustard".

Hi,

Sometime ago, the idea of a White Castle Cook Off to try the recipes on the White Castle website or create our own, then congregate to sample.

There is no longer a heat wave to discourage cooking and creativity. We are now into cooking to warm the soul and the house. It is time to select a date to do the deed.

I finally stopped by 'my' White Castle. The manager advised a preference for Sunday, especially a Bear game Sunday. I checked the Bear schedule to find they don't have Sunday games on October 14, 21 and Nov 18. If we do Saturday, they suggested 3:00 pm until 7:30 pm is a slow time.

Here is a doodle to submit your preferred time.

White Castle
3212 W. Addison (at Elston),

It's back - I copied and pasted forgetting to get that wee number.

Thanks!

So, has anybody actually been to White Castle for their Valentine's Day dinner? My wife has given me permission to take her there. I joked about it a couple years ago, but now I'm on the verge of actually making reservations. Half of the allure is the fascination of who takes their SO to White Castle for Valentine's Day?

My guess is it is a bunch of people like you...going for the humor of it. A far less romantic thing to do would be to take your SO to White Castle the day before Valentine's Day...those who eat White Castle tend not to be popular people to be near the day following :D

Hi,

At the White Castle Cook Off, there was discussion about this. I had the impression one couple was considering it.

Unlike going to pushed-to-the-brink restaurants with an overpriced special-for-the-day menu, this option is entertaining or at least makes for a great story, you know what to expect and it is priced right.

A few years ago, some of us gathered for the un-Valentines day celebration: hamburgers with champagne inspired by Grace Kelly. We had a great time.

Regards,

If any of you are wondering what White Castle's on Valentine's Day looks like, here ya go.

Pretty in pink:

Mrs. Binko with place settings and sliders:

All-in-all, it was a non-ironic crowd at the White Castle on 47th and Archer. That doesn't surprise me, as Brighton Park doesn't really do up irony (which I appreciate.) The crowd consisted of mostly families with kids, although there were several couples, and one table of high schoolers. The atmosphere was festive and relaxed, with all the lighting fixtures covered with pink lighting gels, and the tables done up with red table covers, paper hearts, a tea light candle, and a vase of artificial roses. Staff came around dressed in red button-down shirts to take your order. We went for the #2 $10 special (5xjalapeno sliders, 5xoriginal sliders, 2x fries), a small order of chicken rings with the Buffalo powder, and a couple of large pops. At the end of the night, we even got a couple of complimentary heart-shaped chocolates and homemade ginger snaps. Plus we got our picture taken, too! All for the low, low price of $17 and some change.

Food was great, as usual (if WC is your thing), except for those chicken rings with the Buffalo powder. How in the hell did those pass any sort of focus group? I just don't understand.

But, anyhow, a very cute idea, and I have to give White Castle kudos for having fun with a Hallmark holiday. Now it's time to hit the bar for a few Old Styles. (Somehow, I feel like I did this in the wrong order.)

HI,

Thank you for reporting on this charming experience. I now know what I am doing next year!

Thank you and especially your wife for your adventurous spirit.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Bravo Binko! Bien fait!

And a most excellent, Happy V-Day to you and Mrs. Binko.

If White Castle hadn't pulled outof KC, I'd be thinking about a year from now...

I would have been so disappointed if you reported that the roses on the tables were real. Artificial roses are pitch perfect for a WC Valentines Day "feast".

Yeah, I know I married the right one when she lets me get away with this shit. ;) Actually, as I said upthread she is the one who reminded me to make reservations. Let me tell ya, calling White Castle to make reservations felt somewhat otherworldly. (And it is so difficult for me to resist the Chicagoese urge to append a possessive ess on the end of "White Castle." And I see I've already succumbed to it at least once in this thread.)

A nice event for those loving White Castle. Your wife probably appreciates all the good cooking you do Binko so going to WC once in a while is not a big problem.
You should think of participating in next years challenge that Cathy has already established.

My wife is as happy with a plate of Hamburger Helper as she is homemade chicken paprikash. (Sometimes, I even think moreso, as I just can't bring myself to buy that stuff. I'm not really terribly picky or snobbish about food--witness this thread--but I just...I can't. That is, I'll eat it if served to me, but I just will never cook it myself.)

I wanted to participate in the WC cook off, but, alas, we were in India at the time.

Binko, which WC was that? Just curious - I live in Bridgeport, so chances are good I've been there (I have a sick secret love for WC).
