I'm thinking of making a honey and apricot custard pie from the Pie and Pastry Bible that has a honeycomb pattern pressed into the top. There's also a really intriguing pie in there that's a sweet wine custard with poached apples.

I am very bummed to have to cancel for Sunday’s Dessert Exchange. I can think of nothing better than a Dessert Exchange devoted to PIE. My best friend from college is coming to town for the weekend and through Monday and so our Sunday will be filled with other plans. I will look forward to living vicariously through your photo posts and other reports. I guess I am going to have to make my nutmeg maple cream pie for another dessert exchange, With regrets, Celia

    Hi,

I am making the Paul Hollywood mincemeat pie, though he made tartlettes. I don't want to mess with the judges ideas of what is and is not a pie. Plus it is faster and easier for me to make.

    Regards,

I bet moetchandon encourages pie diversity.

By the way, mine aren't up for judging, just eating. What's the fun in that?

Sad news, everyone. I'm pretty sure my pie is legitimately gross. I made the honey and apricot pie (and dirtied every bowl in the house), but I think the honey I used had too strong of a flavor. I'll still bring it because I think it will look pretty, but just forewarning anyone who wants to try it. I'll also bring the honey I used.

Don't worry! I made an idiotic mistake and was one egg short, so I used a flax egg substitute and extra gelatin for the chiffon. It will be a night of surprises!

I wasn't thinking. You use lemon juice in blueberry pie and I'm allergic. I used organic apple cider vinegar instead and some cinnamon - turned out pretty tasty.

Thanks all for coming! I'm going to enjoy this pie harvest.

Speaking of which, we never talked about next month. Although I think we need to rope moetchandon and nr706 in on the regular. New blood, new blood!

Such fun! Not only was LauraS pie NOT gross, it was delicious!
Like comfort food for me, tasted like egg custard with warm overtones of honey, and won 2nd place ribbon! I had a sliver for breakfast this morning.
Not to mention it was sooo pretty!

There's some weird juju going on in a writer's group I'm in. Another team has bet mine that the loser buys the winner pie. I mentioned the pie contest and another coincidence involving our first-round story and bees, and my teammate said "If only someone made honeycomb pie" and sent a picture and details, which completely match LauraS' pie and recipe. I sense good things. Did anyone get a good shot of that pie so I can use it for smack-talk purposes?

    Thanks!

What a weird coincidence! They don't want you to make it, do they? I'm happy to send along the recipe if you want.
