sounds really good, my wife(who is allergic to chocolate) requests a non-chocolate pie. :D

thanks again for all you help keeping the menu organized.

Well, there's an incentive to make a second pie; one non-chocolate pie TBD.

FWIW, not being allergic to chocolate, but being a pecan pie purist, I'd request one without chocolate, too.

Pecan pie purism not being allergies, I'll take your request under advisement, but I'm not making any promises. :P

Allergies = no
Religion = pretty close

Seriously, I'm sure there'll be plenty to eat. If you want to make one with chocolate, go ahead. Mrs. jimswside and I will find something else to munch on, I have no doubt.

definitely welcome,

Burt is one of the folks I am really looking forward to meeting.

We have been chatting online and on each others blogs for a while, even back to my Chowhound days before I asked the CH moderators to close my account.

Now I feel like it was a wimpy excuse!

I just didn't want to show up empty handed, and the thought of particpating in a friendly little cook-off was really a big motivatior since my electric is shunned from ever doing proper competitions and Jim & I have been talking about "Q" for so many years.

Anyway, I guess I could do my wildly popular Buffalo style chicken wings instead... It would let me get more sleep, and take way less time to prep...

OK!! I'll be there!! And I really do want to meet you folks. :D

Update:

It looks like we are around 50 people +/- before cancellations/last minute additions. I would like get a firm number by next Saturday 4/25/2009. At that point I will pm the folks coming on out with my address which is easily found on mapquest, randmcnally, etc. Ill probably post a couple of signs along the route to help with a couple of the turns.

I think the menu is looking like it is taking care of itself thanks to aschie30's help in posting the spreadsheet.

Some more specifics:

-For those not coming out early to start smoking meat the start time is 12:00 ish, although those not smoking are welcome to come out earlier to pick up tips, or to just hang out.

-For those coming out to smoke let me know what time, Ill be ready(sun up is coming around 6:00 a.m. nowdays).

-I would hope to start serving the main dishes somewhere around the 2-3 p.m. time frame(cant rush bbq so we will see what happens). :D

- As mentioned upthread bring a chair if you have one, otherwise I have about 10-15 on hand

- we could use some more tables if anyone is able to bring them. I think I have about 5 long banquet tables now that will be good for prep, the smoker area, and to set food out on.

- A couple things I see missing are plates, & ice(there is a local liquor store with ice) for anyone who may still be looking for something to bring that isnt food, but desperately needed.

If anyone has any ideas, or sees something missing from the gameplan speak up. I am all ears.

thanks all.

As it appears that we have a lot of side dishes, I will move into the "Dessert" realm. I will be bringing fried candy bars. Kidding. I will bring some type of pie. The next time I update the list, I will update it to reflect this and subsequent changes.[/quote]

If it looks like we have plenty of sides, I can take of my side dish and add another dessert. Let me know.

Hi,

It will be me + one more, the other person can't make it.

I will not be there any earlier than 1:30 PM is my guestimate. If a friend is not having her periodic garage sale, I can borrow a folding camp table. I will bring a few chairs, too.

I will bring some kind of dessert, too. It will depend on what I have on hand or need to experiment with. It won't duplicate anything already pledged.

Looks like it will be fun.

Regards,

glennpan just offered to bring hot links, and I took him up on that gernous offer. It will allow me to focus on my ribs, and save me a trip up to Rheams for sausage.

I think I've decided to bring a Kentucky Butter Cake for dessert. I've not made it before, so hopefully it will be as tasty as it sounds. In addition to the margaritas I'll also bring some plates.

If it's not too late to join in this day of fun, I'd like to add my name and 1+ (hubby). Not being great with my cooking skills, I'd be happy to fill in the void. Can definitely bring in a couple of sacs of ice and some plates as well. I might try my hands at an appetizer dish of some sort.

why not,

the more the merrier, I enjoyed talking with you and your husband at the Chinatown x-mas eve event @ Lao Sze Chuan.

Plates, ice, and an app would be great additions.

since glennpan is brining hot links I may be doing a fauxstrami as well as the BB ribs(trying a test run of fauxstrami this weekend).

One of my guests is bringing a potato salad(at my request, I love my moms recipe, and you cant have enough varieties of potato salad imho). another guest is bringing some cheesecake, and maybe some slamon for the grill, another guest is bringing bottled water, plates, and a desert, and another guest is bringing some tables, & drinks.

I am heartbroken, but it now looks like I need to work next Saturday. It is a sad day indeed when work takes precedence over good barbecue and good company, but for me it seems so at least this week. I would still like to send along my dessert and the plates I offered to bring. Is there anyone on the north side of the city who would be willing to take my stuff if I dropped it off Saturday morning? If so, you can PM me and we can make arrangements from there.

We're changing one thing we are bringing from boring cheese tray to a nice batch of our home marinated olives. Since we have never been to a LTH function before, do we need to bring a placard or such to identify what the dish is and what's in it in case someone has and restrictions?

I cant wait to try those olives.

I am doing 5 slabs of baby backs, and instead of fauxstrami(it will take way too long), I am doing a 4# pork loin that I will either brine, or marinate in pineapple, & either wrap in bacon, or banana leaves, and then smoke.

Here is a tentative time line for this Saturday.

I will be staring my smoke, or at least firing up my smoker by 7:00 a.m., others with smokers, etc. who need alot of cook time just let me know what time you will be heading out, earlier is ok, just let me know

The party starts technically at 12:30ish, but as mentioned in other parts of the thread people can start coming out earlier to talk bbq.

I think we can start setting out appetizers at 2:00 p.m., and have the main dishes ready for serving at 2:30 p.m. These times are not set in stone, as this is going to be a laid back, realtively unstructured event.

Let me know if this sounds good, any feedback is appreciated.

I'm still bringing my bean salad, but the salmon is being replaceed with 4/1 natural casing Vienna hot dogs, buns and minimalist toppings.

If I could also use that grill, it would make the logistics side of my day much easier (because I won't have to bring mine). I will bring some Royal Oak lump to use on it.

Thanks,
