Snap203 and I are in for the chowathon. We probably won't be able to join up until after 8PM, but we'll come hungry.

I just found out about this today, but I really want to make this happen.
I should be able to make it up to Chicago/Hyde Park (from Indianapolis)
for a meet up at Ribs 'n' Bibs @ 6PM. If we're still planning to get a van,
count me in from Ribs 'n' Bibs to the bitter end.

(Add me to the Van List please.)

When will the final itinerary come out?

Heads up, friends: I just called Ramova Grill and the waitress told me that they are staying open an extra two weeks, so y'all are in brilliant luck. Sorry I can't make this . . . one day I will make it to an lthforum event, I swear.

Wow ten years already, I just saw this, I will try to get clearance to do the whole deal. If that works out I would like to get on the bus, but I will have to play it by ear for a day or so.

Sadly, I'll have to bow out.

Looks like we have enough drivers, and not enough passengers to justify a van, so we're canceling the van.

Final schedule should go up within next day.

Here's the schedule, devised largely by Vital Information, architect of first Chowathon. HARD stops are places we will all try to meet up. In between HARD stops, people may at times vary from the "official" stops by stopping at other places along the way.

1200 - Manny's - HARD
1245 - Masi's
1330 - La Chapparita
1415 - Filberts
1430 - Ramova
1500 - Pleasant House
1600 - Berghoff
1700 - Podhalanka - HARD
1830 - Riconcito Cubano
1900 - Whirlaway Lounge
2000 - Joong Boo Market
2130 - Sticky Rice - HARD
2300 - Laschetts -
0000 - Diner Grill - HARD
0045 - Bai Cafe
0200 - Red Hot Ranch
0300 - Chinatown (TBD)
0530 - Valois
0700 - Shan
0800 - Nha Hang
0900 - Green City
1030 - Donut Vault
1100 - Gene & Georgetti's

Oooh, Valois. I haven't been in over 15 years. David, I think I have your number, if I wake up, I'm in, but there's no way I'm setting an alarm clock.

Yes, Valois was kind of a wild choice, and it's been twice as long since I've been there (though I did read Slim's Table in the interim, and regret that Spike Lee never made the movie about it, though he optioned it in like 1990).

A big part of the Chowathon is "discovery," so some off-center places were inserted to keep that spirit alive.

Can someone add addresses to the list? It will help those of us who will be in and out.

We'll do better. milz50 has graciously consented to Google map the whole route to make it easy for folks to follow along.

HI,

How much time do you expect to be at Green City Market? Unless you are accounting for parking, that seems like a long time.

Regards,

All times are somewhat flexible. I think VI was figuring we'd use some of this stop "refreshing" ourselves at the Notebaert Center.

First of all, time at GCM also assumes time to, er, "freshen-up", but also, second, that and all times, include transit. In other words, it's not 90 min @ GCM, but time there and then time to get downtown.

Thanks, Dave. I'm guessing milz50 will find this helpful, too.

Here is the map:

http://g.co/maps/n2m3s

Each segment of the journey is a different color. The intermediate stops are push pins whereas the hard stops are the circles.

Are we sure we want to do Berghoff's at 4:00 PM? It's in the loop, 4:00 on a Friday. Parking may suck and so will traffic to get to 1549 w Division from there at 5:00 PM. Just a thought.

Very cool and fast work. Thanks Matt!

Re: Berghoff. The thinking was that this would be a place to meet up with loop-working LTHers...however, some may hang back at Pleasant House/Maria's and reconvene at Podlhanka. This is a flexible format. Hell, some people may start at Manny's and go no further than Berghoff. That, too, is just fine.

I'm not sure why, but I had this idea that the segment from Bridgeport thru to Logan Sq would be via public transportation. We take orange to loop; have a shot at Berghoff & meet up; blue line to Podhalanka, soup and blintzes; blue line to Logan Sq, sandwich cubano, cafe, walk next door for another shot; and then from there, we can, if desired, take Kimball bus, but I'm thinking get back in cars.

The problem, surely, is what about the people driving. I'm not really sure, and one idea is to kinda leave some cars along the way. I think we need to get a better idea (ASAP) of participants and who's in for what segments; then we can make any adjustments.

*My thinking also is that if you want to take a bit of the journey, you can end it at Pleasant House. Also, perhaps people will drive up until PH and then leave their cars in Bridgeport.

As to the map, looks great, but GCM is at Peggy Notebaert, Cannon & Fullerton.

*Edited to add this.

Patoriq is driving and I'll be shotgun -- we have room for 3 more. We're in for the duration and we'll be at all HARD stops and most of the rest.

I'll be popping in and out based on my schedule. I'll miss the first few stops because I'll be landing at O'Hare sometime in the afternoon. I'll be driving, though, so don't build the schedule around me (not that you would in any event). I'll just catch up when I can. Like I said, its looking like I'll be in and out during the event.

A final gentle suggestion that you may wish to group the South Side places together in one swoop so you don't have that Red Hot Ranch (north Western) - Valois (Hyde Park) - Shan (north Sheridan) dip in the wee hours (on PT?) and to make some barbecue accessible.

However, the itinerary looks creative, appealing, and viable as-is, and I'll look forward to getting to as much as I can. Look to my coming at first light of the fifth day. At Dawn, look to the East. Er, at Laschet's.

Good thought, Matt, but I'm kind of feeling that we need to lock in to what we have, as VI has concepted, Matt has googlemapped, and we could keep refining, but at some point, we have to say It's Done. Then again, I'm not driving (just riding -- and I'm planning to snooze between some later stops).

Count me in for the whole shebang. I'll be
heading up from Indy in a small rental car,
that I'm hoping to park for the day, probably
somewhere around UIC. Any idea if there is any
(no-special-permit-required) free street parking
available around there, or would it be best
to go with some lot/garage?

I'm guessing patoriq would be just fine with you (and two others) coming along. Can't answer parking question.

Fantabulous. I plan to meet you at Berghoff's (what time you will leave there, approximately?), pop out to go to Dank Haus around 7ish, rejoin you at Sticky Rice, hopefully for the duration. I will be a ride beggar.

I think Berghoff will be a relatively short stop.
