The next Dessert Exchange will be at my place in Deerfield on Sunday August 26th at 11 AM
PLEASE NOTE THE NEW TIME
I will need to wrap up by 2 PM due to personal business travel that day.
I am near to both the Edens and 294, and 0.5 mi from the Metra (Milwaukee Dist N Line, Deerfield).

There will be a light brunch- I am thinking a fruit salad and most likely a blintz souffle that I make that is usually well-liked (fairly dairy).
Please let me know if you have dietary needs and I will accommodate.
Attendance limit will be 10 including myself.

1. Irisarbor - Chocolate Buttermilk Brownies (with Chocolate Buttermilk Frosting)
2. Cathy2 - cottage cheese pie intended for breakfast or dessert
3. SueF - ? something chocolate
4. Pie Lady - raspberry cream pie, strawberry ice cream?
5. CookieMonster
6.
7.

Hi,

Unless something pops up unexpectedly, I plan to be there.

Thanks for hosting!

Please add me to the list.
Not a fish person, but I can deal with just salad.
I think I will have to bring something chocolate next time - we had a decided lack of it this month.

I will have to miss this one due to my vaca in South Haven but I will catch you ladies at another time. Mean while I decided to provide links to all my past dessert offerings that I have brought. I have been making many of these for years. They all travel and keep well and are not too sweet. These I have known to be tried and true recipes that turn out well. Pls note I only use pure extracts not artificial ones so I used those in the cakes I brought to the exchanges.

Maida Heatters Best Damn Lemon cake
http://cake.betterrecipes.com/maida-hea ... -cake.html

Sweet Chocolate Tea Cake (if you can not find german chocolate you can use semi sweet)
http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,196,144 ... 94,00.html

Solo Almond Cake
http://www.food.com/recipe/solo-almond-cake-78771

Polish Pound Cake - note I used butter, almond, and vanilla extract in the cake.
I used pecans but have used walnuts. also used a whole jar of cherries chopped, more than four oz. I think the cake would turn out well without the nuts and cherries too. Would be excellent in a lamb mold because it has a lot of body to it.

I'm going to have to refrain from the exchanges for a bit. My blood sugar count has been a bit above normal for the last two or three blood tests, so the insurance company and doctor are on me to do something about it. I am on a quest to lose 30 pounds. The doc says be slim or be diabetic. Can't have that.

I will sadly also have to miss this exchange because we will be moving either that weekend or the one before. Regardless, definitely won't be up for cooking anything around that time.

Please note the change in time to 11 AM and a more Brunch-y format.
I need to travel later in the day for work.
Everyone who has already RSVP'd can make it earlier in the day, so this seems like the best option.
There is still room for some more dessert-ers!

bump!

This is just 1 week away, and we still have room to accomodate any newcomers...or last-minute decisions.
if you've never done dessert exchange, basically you make one normal sized pie, cake, batch of cookies, whatever
share a light meal,
then taste the desserts, chat, and share the leftovers between the attendees.

with such a conveniently sized group- it will be a very pleasant gathering.
all are welcome!

Since it has been hot and I don't really know what the temp will be next week, so far I plan on making a no-bake raspberry cream pie. Possibly some boozy cookie ball things too, but we'll see how lazy I get.

Hi,

At the Illinois State Fair, family heirloom recipe first prize went to a cottage cheese pie intended for breakfast or dessert.

What the heck, I will bring it to the dessert exchange brunch.

Regards,

Thanks much to irisarbor for hosting! I'm looking forward to polishing off some sweets later.

Everything was so delish! Thanks to all for being accomodating on the time.
I really enjoyed the earlier time frame.
If no one else does sooner, I will post pix next week after I return from the bizyness trip.

Hi,

I will try to get to those pics today. Just overbusy on my side, though that is really not a good excuse.

I think dessert exchange brunch worked really well. It was also at a time of day where traffic is not an issue anywhere. Of course, I was in hog heaven being only 10 minutes away from home. I doubt Cookie Monster had any issues coming from the city.

Thanks, again, for hosting and everyone for doing what they do very, very well: dessert!

Regards,

For a little eye candy, here is the parade of food and desserts served at this months exchange:

Irisarbor provided fresh fruit and a blintz breakfast souffle for brunch:

Once we had brunch, we could dig into what we came for: dessert!

At the magic hour of 2:00 pm, we packed up our goodies and poof! we were out the door.

What fun!

Thanks!

I keep forgetting that I took home the last vestiges of my pie and stuck it in the freezer...I'll report back on whether it tastes good completely frozen or not.

My mouth is watering, wish I was there. I almost rsvp'd at the last minute, diet be damned, but thought better of it. I'm taking my chances by going to the picnic.
