What Kind of Recipe Should I Enter?

Choose your best from-scratch family heirloom recipe, suitable for a family or community dinner. The recipe should date back to before 1950.

To see examples of past winners from the Greater Midwest Foodways’ State Fair competition, go to greatermidwestfoodways.com, and click on “State Fairs.”

What Do I Win?

Winners selected in each category will receive:

First prize:

• $75 Sunset Foods gift card

• $25 Thyme in the Kitchen Cooking Class gift certificate

• 1-year membership to the Greater Midwest Foodways Alliance

Second prize:

• $50 Sunset Foods gift card

Third prize:

• $25 Sunset Foods gift card

How Do I Enter?

Application packets are available by clicking here or at all Sunset Foods Customer Service Desks. Complete an application, and make sure to include both the recipe and a brief story that tells us:

• Who passed the recipes down to you

• Ethnicity, if relevant

• Number of years the recipe has been in their family and

• Any other interesting “icing on the cake” tidbits

Completed application packets, along with a $10 registration fee (make checks payable to Sunset Foods), must be postmarked by Friday, October 13th, 2012.

Please note that based on an initial screen of applications, final participation will be limited to up to 15 contestants per category. Final contestants will be notified by Friday, October 20th.

If selected, contestants should bring their prepared dish to the Sunset Foods in Long Grove on Saturday, November 3rd, 2012 for tasting and evaluation by an esteemed panel of food writers and food professionals.
