I have been organizing this event series together with Slow Food to celebrate a rare heirloom pepper variety and hope you are interested in joining - eat it to save it!

The Beaver Dam Pepper was brought to Wisconsin 100 years ago this September by Hungarian immigrant Joe Hussli. Because the pepper grows to be 9" long, it must be trellised, which has caused lack of popularity in it's cultivation. Slow Food has included it in the Ark of Taste as a noteworthy, but endangered local variety.

From September 21 - 23 you can taste this delicious, spicy and flavorful pepper in special menu creations at participating restaurants. For interested gardeners, there will be complimentary seed packets available with the restaurant's host.

Birchwood Kitchen (2211 West North Avenue)
- Beaver Dam Pepper Brunch: Peperonata, lemon-garlic swiss chard, grilled bread, poached eggs, beaver dam pepper relish

Green Zebra (1460 West Chicago Avenue)
- Fresh Cavatelli, chanterelle mushrooms, roasted fennel, Beaver Dam Pepper coulis, sweet basil

Lula Café (2537 North Kedzie Boulevard)
- Grilled Snake River Sturgeon, Beaver Dam peppers, crispy broccoli leaves, Chinese sausage, parsnip, chile oil

Standard Market Deli (333 E Ogden Ave Westmont)
- Beaver Dam Pepper Quesadilla

Uncommon Ground (1401 West Devon Avenue)
- Extra virgin olive oil dressed, blistered Beaver Dam Pepper
with prosciutto

Uncommon Ground (3800 North Clark Street)
- Housemade chorizo and cedar grove cheese curd stuffed
Beaver Dam Pepper, organic black bean cake, creamy sweet
corn

Vera (1023 West Lake Street)
