That would explain the burning tire tracks in the parking lot.

Great LTHNLG meeting this afternoon. Good food and conversation. Sorry - no photos of the event.

Food was good, not great: I am glad that GNR Boston Seafood Market is closer, but I'd probably still go there if it were further.
Ken ordered a couple things for the table, that were among the better things we had: the crabcakes weren't stellar, but the mango salsa was very nice. However, the mussels were awesome, with great broth.

I don't know about the other fried items, but the perch were battered, versus BSM's light breading. While the batter is light and crisp, it was also rather oily, masking the sweet little fishies. The hush puppies were unimpressive: dense, heavy and not hot and crisp. Portions were very large -- a half-pound fried perch seemed like more than that.

For a large group, I thought the service was quite good: drinks were refilled, servers were by frequently.
If I were in the neighborhood, I'd certainly put it on my rotation, but I'm not likely to drive out there on a whim.

I agree. It seemed as though, unlike the other items which were clearly prepared to order, the hush puppies may have sat around; maybe they made a big batch at the start of the lunch hour and stuck them under a warmer. Too bad; I loves me a good hushpuppy.

The lobster roll was just okay; the lobster was decent but seemed overwhelmed by the dressing/sauce it was in.

That is my take also. The batter on the oyster overwhelmed the taste of the oysters. The fried products were very oily.

Having said that, I saw some amazing Russian foods and other deals at the Garden Fresh on IL-60. They have some amazing breads also.

    Hi,

Initially, I liked having their fried food. A little after, I felt not too comfortable due to the greasiness. My feeling they need to up the temperature on their fryers. Fried foods doesn't soak up that much oil unless the temps are too low or at least that is my experience.

I am excited to hear about the mussels, because that is a favorite.

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I picked up an amazing bread right before our lunch. I'll probably regret mentioning it - they already usually run out some time during the day - but it's the multi-grain baguette at Gourmet Frog. It's also the bread they usually serve at Froggy's.

I would like to add to Joel's comment. I agree that the mussels were excellent. It was a very nice portion size (a lot of mussels), but the size of each mussel was very small. Definitely worth ordering, though, and the best thing we had today.

Since Po Boys are such a large part of their lunch menu, I was surprised at how poor the bread was. It was dry and almost stale. Stuff inside was good, but a good sandwich isn't good without good bread.
