It's February. The weather's still crappy. Who knows when the sun will come back out. A piping hot bowl of Mish Mash soup from The Bagel will turn that frown into a smile.

Please join the LTH North Lunch Group on the 13th for some awesome tastes of tradition. As always, bring a friend.

OK, I'll bite...on a pastrami sandwich, maybe. And I think a Jewish deli is the perfect venue for the Bolsheviks among us that want to rise up, just not whilst digesting a coupla big matzo balls...

I'm in. The goal will be to just order soup, otherwise I'll want soup, sandwich, potato pancakes, cole slaw, which doesn't fit with losing 40 pounds this year.

Drive from Mundelein to Old Orchard in the middle of a work day for a bagel and soup? Sorry, no can do. Now, if you'd suggested Frontera Fresco ... actually, I've got too much work today to go anywhere. Hope you all have fun though.

I might be able to join you. Things are crazy at work, so I'm going to have to be a game time decision.

Looking forward to seeing the gang. They don't take reservations for a small group. I'll be there early to grab a table.

I don't think Eddie has ever cut it this close.

We now have a reservation under Dave.

A great lunch yesterday. Good food and conversation. What more do you need?

    Stay tuned for March.

Gonna be hard to top the lampshade-sized cauldron of mish-mosh soup Dave ordered, evoking simultaneous feelings of amazement & revulsion among the patrons. But being the EC, you didn't care, although Eddie was shooting me sidelong glances in abject embarrassment. Joel has a picture to verify, taken with a wide-angle lens, no doubt.

On a serious note, I had never ordered The Bagel's whitefish salad and its tangy, smooth taste I would recommend to all. Conversely, the meat knish I ordered to take home--and am eating as we speak--was not at all up to par with my standard at Manny's. This one was more bread than potato based, although the meat filling is quite good. Slathering it with gravy helps.

Note: This bowl is approximately the same size as the one that A Bite of Szechuan used to serve hot and sour soup to seven of us.
Also note that Dave left about a quart of broth behind, which could have been used as the base of a meal for an entire family.
