    HI,

Typically the worst winter day is when the picnic save-the-date announcement goes out. It is to allow us an opportunity to dream of warmer days and pleasant gatherings.

Ironically, our picnic was one of the hotter days of year. This is something I hope will not be a new tradition, because I loathe heat and humidity. Luckily, we have not yet tested our perseverance by having a rain day and showing up anyway.

Thank you to those who brought liquids and ice, because very little was left at the end of the day. Every bit was needed to keep us going.

I probably ate less this year than before, which I attribute to the heat.

    Very glad everyone was happy!

    Thank you!

    Regards,
    Cathy2

I'll edit this--I think there are some items that didn't make it and I can put screen names with the dishes. I'm a bit under the weather so it will have to wait til tomorrow at the earliest. Thx.

Thanks to everyone for their tremendous effort on (and in advance of) Sunday. Given the conditions, it was beyond laudable. I was so hot, I pretty much lost my desire to eat , so I can only imagine was it must have been like setting up, cooking over fire and breaking down stations in the blazing afternoon sun. I nibbled but never really went into berserker mode, as I hoped to -- and have in years past. In fact, even my ambitions for a day of imbibing fizzled, though I did manage to down 5 bottles of water. In the end, just sitting in the shade was challenging. Still, it was great to see everyone and do some catching up. We've been lucky with so many consecutive rain-free editions, but in this case, things went just a bit too far in the other direction!

If you know me then you already know what it means for me to say even I found it hot!

It appears we were not imagining it but we got to bear witness to a historic heat wave!

Given the odd nature of this weather I suspect we will not experience it again for an LTH Picnic.

I second that emotion CAthy2! The SOUK rocked the picnic. I was so smitten with the roasted cauliflower and hazelnut salad that I tracked down a copy of Ottolenghi's JERUSALEM cookbook at the Library and I just think I may have to add yet another cookbook to my collection.
Thank you for your amazingly delicious spread. And yes, please do share the menu and the recipe sources if possible. Sign me a grateful picnic attender. Celia
