I will host the next dessert exchange in Highland Park. There is room for 10 at our table. I will serve a light dinner; in looking at past guidelines it looks like everyone should bring a dessert to serve 10-12 and take-home containers. I don't know everyone's usernames yet but I certainly hope pairs4life will be attending! We are close to US 41 and there is parking on the street; I will provide directions to those who sign up. I'm looking forward to my first time hosting!

Thank you for hosting January's event! Please save me a spot at your table. My roommate and his fiancee enjoyed last night's takeaways and are interested in becoming a part of our little group.

If, as the date gets closer, we have room for me +2 they would like to join in, otherwise it will be just me!

Let me know! Now comes the time to think of what to make!
Have a good day in the kitchen.

    Hi,

This is too close to home to not attend. I plan to come.

It is also so far in the future, I hope I don't have to cancel due to whatever may drop from the sky. If I cannot, I hope to cancel with plenty of time to allow someone else to jump in.

    Regards,

Does everyone post recipes they will be bringing here? What kinds of desserts are usually brought to this event? Since I have not attended this before, I will probably have more questions. Looking forward to this event, it sounds delish! Thank you.

Sometimes folks will post if requested. Sometimes they will not.

All types of desserts. I have made ice cream, cake, pie, cookies. Others have fried doughnuts. Does that answer your question?

I look forward to meeting you.

Thank you for the information! I appreciated the photos of the last dessert exchange. A few more questions: Do people take home a sample of each dessert or is it just for sharing and tasting at the event? I presume we will be informed how much dessert we should make, how many servings or tastings, which I am guessing would be 1/3 of a serving approx?

It gets a bit odd here so I will chime in and others will add their thoughts.
Historically, folks have not been asked to double a dessert because not everyone likes/eats everything anyhow from nuts, to booze, to chocolate, etc. in dessert.

I was also the 1st renegade host ( to my knowledge at least) to not serve a dessert, we still had more dessert than we knew how to eat so... I feel like if you are opening your home and serving a meal making dessert is up to you. We encourage folks to bring containers to take food away.

I try to save room to taste the desserts there so I can talk knowingly while we fellowship, others find it like a competitive eating competition because the host tends to throw down the gauntlet on their "light meal" offering and we can't stop eating that before we get to desserts, so they prefer to pack their sweets to go and will chime in on the the thread here with their impressions when they feel like they can fully appreciate their treats.

    Does that answer your question?

Ava you are so funny, but so informative! As this will be my 3rd exchange, I can attest that even with the competitive mentality of trying all you can before the sugar overload kicks in... there will still be more than enough to take home.

It looks like my +2’s have formally RSVP’d themselves to this thread. (NerdyKnight and Cohen1524) so we can subtract my original request of +2.

I’m playing with the idea of Canneles or tea cakes. It’s been a year since I baked some canneles at home. The other two are my “assistants” at home so it’s almost like we will be making 3 dessert together.

We also recently acquired the 3 Ottolenghi books sans Plenty. Lots of inspiration in there.
Have a good day in the kitchen.

Of course they will bring desserts!
1)They knew from Distinktif how it works.
2)And then they signed themselves up after reading the pinned post.

Whoever heard of going to a dessert exchange for the first time and not bringing a dessert to exchange!?

let me echo and expand on Pairs4Life's comments. 1 batch of a recipe is the suggestion. So, one cake, one pie, one tart (if you like that kind of thing, and I do) or 1 batch of cookies, bars, ice cream or whatever you fancy making. Its all good and despite our best efforts to eat small portions, we all leave the event happily stuffed AND with loads of lovely goodies to take home for ourselves or roomies, or spouses, or friends. It is a just an all around fantastic outcome!

Hi everyone! I’m really looking forward to hosting the next dessert exchange. Here is the format, copied from prior exchanges:

    1. I will serve a light vegetarian supper. It is likely to involve salad, bread, and quiche.

    2. Each guest should bring one recipe of a dessert—an old favorite, something you’ve been wanting to try, something you’ve recently been making and striving to perfect, …..? No doubling or tripling of recipes is necessary.

    3. Bring containers to take portions home!

    4. Come hungry!

Make whatever you like. Because some members do not eat meat or drink alcohol, make sure to tell everyone at the outset whether what you make contains ingredients such as lard or booze. I am confident that there will be more than enough to satisfy everyone!

If you need to cancel, please do so on this thread. Also, if it's within 48 hours of January 21, please message me as well.

We have three cats, one of whom will almost undoubtedly remain hidden.

I am expanding the guest list to the 14 who have signed up to date, but anyone signing up after this post will need to go on the wait list.

    Guest list:

    1. pairs4life
    2. kalamazoogal
    3. Distinktif
    4. Cathy2
    5. wild rice
