For the first time the Bride and I find ourselves truly empty of nest this holiday, and all of our normal holiday companions are also out of town. Some might mope or sulk, but we feel liberated - able to step out and do something other than gorge on turkey and then lapse into a coma in front of mediocre football, until returning to consciousness just long enough to down another heaping plate of leftovers (okay, we actually plan to do that on Saturday, in the spirit of full disclosure, because we do like that meal).

Anyone else on the loose on Thanksgiving and interested in joining us to make a meal of it in Chinatown? Have not yet checked to see which places will be open, though I am pretty sure the answer is almost all. As to locale, I did have a great meal last month at Double Li, so I could always go back there, but we are flexible if someone else has a strong preference.

Edited:

Confirmed for 2p at
Double Li
228 W. Cermak

I can't recall the name, but there is a spicy szechuan place called Lao...something something. I feel like a lame foodie having not been able to get there yet. I'm still buying the turkey, etc. I happen to love light years of recycled bird and trimmings.

Lao Sze Chuan. But Double Li is also a very good Szechuan place, and I have been to both more than a couple of times.

Slightly confused, though. I think you are interested in having a Thanksgiving dinner in Chinatown, and, like us, you plan to cook a turkey dinner, too, just not on Thanksgiving? Just making sure I understand.

Anyway, LSC would be perfectly fine if that is your preference. Haven't been to that one in a bit. And don't feel bad about not remembering a name - if that were an offense, I would be in permanent trouble.

I'm up for anything. I'm invited to a potluck that looks like it's going to be sparsely populated and the people are not enthusiastic foodies either. I have a hard time making small talk. I just buy the turkey, etc. at this time of year because it's so inexpensive and challenges my ability to rework leftovers.

I like anything in Chinatown except hot pot, too much work! And I do love spicy. I think next time I'm undecided about a holiday I'll just post a request on LTH too. Great idea. Thanks for posting.

I love the idea. If I wasn't tied up I'd be there. Have fun!

Have we come to a decision about the restaurant yet? I may have a guest interested.

How about 2p. LSC? LSC is at the far western end of the mall, on the south side. Will post address once we confirm time/place.

We are pretty flexible so if you have a preference for a different time, just say the word. Right now it looks like it will just be 3 or 4 of us, but I will revise with date and time, and maybe we will get some last minute additions so we can have a larger feast (though I am all for ordering excessively and having leftovers - it is both Thanksgiving and LTH, so it is really required).

A so so Thanksgiving for one Ruth Smerling is now a dream come true. 2 p.m. is fine. I will pass info on to my guest and look forward to meeting you. I think I will recognize you, but do not attend regular LTH events. I can be reached by cell at 312-208-4390 if we get lost.

I am at 630-399-9172. How might I recognize you?

OP edited to reflect the plan. Others are welcome.

I have reddish brown hair and glasses and I'll probably be wearing an orange and black striped shirt. I'll give you a call before Thursday. Oh, there's a picture of me on facebook too.

Would you be okay if we moved the meal to Double Li? After some consideration, I would rather do that since I do get to LSC with some regularity. Double Li is also wonderful Szechuan food, and probably operating at a little higher level these days. IMHO.

Wish I could join you - will be passing through the area en route from Rockefeller Chapel services to family party, but have an appetizer to prepare between events, and I don't think octopus home style will get the crowd excited in the intended vein. I wish a very Happy Thanksgiving to all.

There will be four of us at 2, but if anyone else makes a last minute decision and wants to come you are welcome. Call first, and we will make sure we get the right size table, or just show up and you will be welcome.

Happy Thanksgiving.
