The company's giving us drones the day off this Friday; in light of the active thread about Manny's, I've been thinking about a followup to my first trip some five years ago. Since I'm a skeptic, though, I'd rather have some good company -- anyone up for, say, a 12:30 rendezvous?

Put me down as a tentative "yes", dependent on any work-related issues that may prevent my attendance.

Manny's supreme awesome-ness will erase your skepticism ;)

Yea, me too, tentative yes. I've been hankering for Manny's for a while. Thanks for the excuse.

Glad to see a good response and I hope more will join in -- in the meantime, here's Manny's lunchtime menu for us advance planners.

A quick thanks to Bob S. for putting together a Manny's lunch today. Nice to meet some LTHers for the first time and see some familiar faces. Sorry I had to split so quickly, but professional duties were calling.

Short ribs were a delicious diversion from the pastrami, even if they did stiff me on the prunes. :(

    Best,
    Michael

My corned beef sandwich was almost bigger than my head, but I managed to eat it, along with a really good potato pancake (but not as good as my mom's) for lunch. It was really, really good. As I mentioned at lunch, we don't get this kind of stuff in the southern suburbs and I miss it.

We really should do this again soon. Thanks, Bob S., for sharing your day off with us!

Add my thanks to those above, Bob. A great lunch, sorry I had to skedaddle early. I enjoyed yet another of the World's Best Roast Beef Sandwiches (well, that's what they should call it IMHO), which is almost impossible for me to resist. Also ate, first-ever for me, Manny's macaroni and cheese from the steam table, which was excellent and, moreover, was served with an ample portion of blackened, burned cheese (the good kind) that could become a specialty dish in itself. That plus the famous discus-sized potato pancake and a Cel-Ray, and I was left to wobble like a Weeble back to my office.

It was nice to meet new people as well. I enjoyed the corned beef, wow is that a lot of food. I don't think Ill need dinner. Thanks to Bob for putting this together.

Thanks Bob. I always love an excuse for Manny's. I was so hungry today at lunch, I was ready to eat the whole line. Then, my wife had to kibbitz with Geno for a long time, protracting the hunger. I did, however, get a nice thrill when the assembled group, thought the roast beef AND the corned beef sandwiches were my lunch.

Thanks also to Jim who's appetite does not approach mine, and I got to eat his leftovers.

Nice seeing old and new friends.

    HI,

ANy hint Bob S now has a more favorable opinion of Manny's?

    Regards,

Yes, I'd say that's the case. This time the pastrami had none of the now-legendary rubbery strings of fat; at this point it's batting one for two, and I suppose when I return in another five years (just kidding) we'll have the, er, rubber match. (I do amuse myself.) Incidentally, the sandwich was sitting on the shelf waiting to be taken, but given the crowds I see no reason to think it had been there more than a few minutes.

Buuuuuut... I still have to give the nod to Uncle Abe's Deli. Their pastrami reminds me of pastrami in Boston-area delis; Manny's, this time at least, reminded me of Boston-area sub shop pastrami. It's hard to define the difference, but oversimplifying, overdone... the sub shop pastrami out there is overseasoned to compensate for its deficiencies. I'm not saying that Manny's was overseasoned per se -- but at Uncle Abe's I taste a better and more interesting seasoning. (My mother used to use pickling spice along with mustard powder and peppercorns in her pastrami seasoning, which may account for my preference.)

That aside, a great group to enjoy a good sandwich with. Michael and Jim are forgiven for ducking out early as, given their work schedules, it was a pleasure that they could make it at all. I hadn't seen VI since the Milwaukee Ave. walkathon, so it was good to see him and meet Mrs. VI, and a pleasure to meet uosullivan and the sdritz contingent.

(Oh, and Peter, sorry you couldn't make it -- I won't be able to do Manny's again next week, but perhaps we could head over to our other rave-fave spot, J&C Bombacigno's...)
