I saw no mention of "google text" on the site and I consider it a valuable tool for the food explorer.

For those not in the know, google text is a texting service from google that allows you to do many things. Lets say your up in Deerfield and you remember a place you read about located there called "Tony's subs" but you dont got a clue where it is.

Now its easy, simply text "Tonys subs deerfield, IL" to 46645 (first five letters of google) and withing seconds you will be replied to with the address and phone number.

Now if you wanna take a step further and get driving directions from lets say the Big star drive-in to Woodman's grocery in Kenosha, WI. You can do that to. Simply type your starting address to your desired location "1500 Washington rd Kenosha, WI to 7145 120th Ave Kenosha, WI" again within seconds you will be texted back the driving directions. This really helps me out when im in an area I know has a place I need to try but have no idea where it is.

    standard text rates apply.

I use Google text a lot also. I'm usually amazed that it can find a business with so little information.

I use it a lot, too.

You can also call 1-800-GOOG-411 to search by voice. It can then text message you the results back to you, or a link to a google map.

I think this service is officially called Google SMS.

BTW, if you use Google Calendar, there's an SMS system for this as well - which I'd imagine could be enabled for the Google Events calendar...
