I missed this note when first displayed, but glad I caught it on the thread bump.

    Now I'm hungry

My only objection is to the etymology: "taco" in the dialects of Spain means "swear word" and not a small snack.

The origin of the word I have heard is precolumbian "tlaco" but I don't know the meaning of that word.

On the other hand, dictionary.doc says it means "plug, wad of bank notes" in Spanish.

The best source I've found on the etymology is http://www.fogoncito.com/english/empresa/hist_taco.html
which has a number of sources, including the plug, "everything comes from the word attack," and corruption of native words "ueitlaxcalli, quauhtaqualli and tlaxcalpocholi, he means from, taqualli or tlaco and finally taco"
