The GNR Committee nominates the following places for reconsideration. (note: threads will be opened & bumped, and names will link to nomination threads).

If you wish to nominate any other GNR for reconsideration, please do so by posting a reply here. Please link your post to its nomination thread so it is easy for others to comment on it. All comments about the places, other than the simple statement that you nominate it for reconsideration, should be posted on the specific threads for the GNR, either on the GNR Board, the Eating out in Chicago Board, or the Beyond Chicagoland Board. This thread is not to discuss the merits of any place. If you see places on this list that you feel are so completely deserving of its GNR status that you are shocked to see them here, so do I. Please post about them and/or arrange a group meal, just as I plan to do.

Finally, each member may only nominate one place for reconsideration in a year.

a Tavola
Chaihanna
Double Li
Habana Libre
Hai Woon Dae
Jimmy's Red Hots
La Casa de Samuel
La Quebrada
La Unica
Mekato's Columbian Bakery & Cafe
Mixteco Grill
Papa's Cache Sabroso
Semiramis
The Violet Hour
Top Notch Beef Burgers

For more discussion on how we selected these places please go here.

I think it's only fair that you post a list of those that received "automatic" status. Hard to tell which others are due for renewal and thus determine whether others might need to be reconsidered. Thx.

Perhaps Avec is due for reconsideration, what with Koren Grieveson being gone now and all? Has anyone been since she left?

Is that a nomination, or a question? Your call.

Not that I claim to understand this process completely, but I'm not sure that's how a nomination should work.

Said differently, Prairie Grass Cafe would seem to be an excellent candidate for reconsideration given the lack of any posts about the food in the last 2 years. But since I haven't eaten there in at least that long I don't really consider it appropriate for me to formally nominate.

Feel free to ask questions about the process. We are aware that it takes a while to absorb, as we spent close to a year working it out.

If you have looked at the track record and feel it is iffy, please do not hesitate to nominate it. Speaking for the Committee and tradition, we tend to agree that a place should not be nominated for reconsideration just because a chef has changed. Normally we look at lack of interest or negative posts to deem a place no longer deserving to be a GNR, not a suspicion that things might be changing for better or worse.

The goal here is to promote discussion of neglected places, or remove them from the GNRs. So if you view Prairie Grass as being neglected, please nominate it. It could receive a swell of support as has happened with some others, or quietly disappear.

Then I will renominate Prairie Grass for reconsideration, meaning I think it should be dropped. The last meal I had there was decidedly pedestrian, and everything was undersalted - a pattern that developed several years ago. Service was lackluster, too. Perhaps Ms. Stegner's experience with the failure of Prairie Fire took some of the wind out of her sails.

In light of the following:

I'm gonna say it was a question, and that the answer is probably no.

I suggest that Nuevo Leon be reconsidered. Once it was iconic and it is still fun, but the food, not so much. Competent food and good for culinary tourists, but nothing remarkable today.
