As explained
here in more detail, the process for renewals is different this year.
The short version is that, unless a place is nominated for reconsideration by an LTH member or the GNR Committee, it will continue to be a GNR. For those places at the end of their two year term, that means they get a new two year term. In addition to the need to nominate a place for reconsideration, the other big difference this year is that
any GNR may be nominated for reconsideration during the renewal period, whether or not it is at the end of its two year term. As noted in the linked post, that is so that we can remove places from the GNR list that no longer deserve the designation.
Places may be nominated for reconsideration through 9/21.
It is the consensus among the the Committee members that the standard for off-cycle (places not at the end of a two year term) removal should be pretty high - it is not that a place has changed and we are waiting to see how the change will play out, but rather that it has clearly changed for the worse and is no longer deserving of the designation. But this is our opinion, and if the consensus of the members is that we should use different criteria, we shall. As always, we will give the most weight to recent posts on actual experiences at each place.
Each member may nominate one place for reconsideration each year. They may nominate any GNR except those that have already been nominated for reconsideration. If you feel a place that has been nominated for reconsideration deserves to remain a GNR, please post on your recent (since the last time it was renewed, or when it became a GNR if it is new), positive experiences either on the Eating Out or Beyond Chicagoland Boards, or in its GNR thread. Or arrange a dinner, or prompt more discussion and posts in any way that works.
For discussion of these changes, please go to the site chat thread linked above. To nominate a place for reconsideration, please go
here. Please do not argue the merits of any place in the Nominate for Reconsideration thread.
The post below contains a list of all places that are at the end of their two year term and have not been nominated for reconsideration (it will be updated once a day or so, so may not be completely up to date). Once a place is nominated for reconsideration, the thread will be unlocked and bumped on the GNR Board.
