never been to a beer festival. May try one. just wondering of the tasting glass is large enough to get a good taste. I did a wine fest once and found the pour way too small.

At all of the beer events I've ever been to, that isn't even remotely a issue.

They'll usually give you about a 3 ounce or so pour...until the last hour when they'll fill the tasting glass to the top because they don't want to lug the beer back to the brewery. I have probably been to 10 beer festivals and this is always the case.

I am heading to the Wisconsin Dells On Tap Festival on Octiober 15. http://www.wisdells.com/wisconsin-dells ... on-tap.cfm

Usually this is true. The OP mentioned the Festival of Wood and Barrel Aged Beer. This fest has two separate sessions -- one in the afternoon, and one in the evening. In the past, during the afternoon session, they will stop pouring any beer when it's half gone. This is to allow the evening tasters to have a chance to try everything.

(I've only been to the afternoon sessions. I image in the evening, the full pours might happen towards the end, as eatwisconsin suggested.)

Anyone out there interested in 2 tickets to the afternoon session of FOBAB? I need 2 tickets to the evening and would like to switch with someone (we can switch names for the willcall pickup on brownpapertickets). Let me know if anyone can assist. Thanks!

I made my first visit to the festival of wood and barrel aged beers (and first to any organized beer tasting) last night and had a great time. The night was a real eye opener for me, with an incredible range and depth of flavors, especially the acidic and brett wild beers. I'm already looking forward to next year.

Very nice meeting you. :)

It was my first time, too and I really enjoyed it. REB and RAB had advised me that this was a must-attend event for anyone who is interested in beer...and they were 100% correct. As a relative neophyte, it was great to have so many high-quality, hard-to-find brews all in one place. I increased my knowledge exponentially yesterday and had a great time in the process...well, maybe that was the other way around.

Went to the afternoon session of FOBAB and it was as awesome as it has always been. Tons of great beers.

Favorite beers
Amara
Veritas 010
Barrel Aged Fritz and Ken
Coffee BCS
Destihl Framboise
All of Fitger's offereings

Disappointments
Destihl Foresaken - Tasted like buttered popcorn
Upland Gilgamesh - Not bad, but not that good either

Not dissapointments because I didn't expect them to be good, but Spazzerack! and Small Animal Big Machine were the worst beers I had yesterday. Unless you absolutely love black licorice, Spazzerack is disgusting. SABM tasted like aspirin.

Chitown [ugh] On Tap has a rough outline on some upcoming festivals/tasting events coming up:

Regarding StoutFest, the Clybourn brewpub has already announced that tickets go on sale Feb. 1. No specifics on price or per person limits.

Tickets for Goose Island's Belgian Fest are now available:
http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/267233

If Stout Fest is any indication, this is usually a great event with lots of one-off kegs and unusual/different ideas on display. Not sure how long tickets will last, so don't delay in picking up tickets if you think you're interested in going!

I'd love to attend but it's the same day as the LTH picnic, so I'm out this time around. :(
