Using a plastic cup to ingest something as life-affirming as KFP Coke is just so wrong on many levels. Would you use a plastic cup at a Chateau Latour tasting? I didn't think so.

Seriously, I look forward to this time of year. I am in a food related business and I always buy at least 15 cases of KFP Coke from one of my customers (who graciously discounts it ). It lasts me several months, and when it is gone I rely on the occasional Mexican Coke to tide me over until the next Passover.

Thanks for the comparison, interesting that the Mexican coke is 10-calories more than Passover coke.

My first sip, ok, really more a chug, of kosher for Passover coke this year was interesting as the first thing that came to mind was how much smoother* it was than regular coke.

I agree that there is a huge difference in mouthfeel between sugar coke a HFCS coke. The corn Coke tastes thick compared to the clean taste of Coke made of sugar.

I am not so sure about the test as I feel that Coke in the can tastes different than in the bottle. The bottled version always (at least to me) seems smoother than the can version.

Passover is just around the corner. But, no need to wait for sugar cola. It's as close as your nearest Whole Foods.

I'm not a big soda drinker and don't have a Pepsi or Coke favorite. I do like a cola once in awhile, however, and one day tried the Whole Foods brand. All of the soda they sell is made with sugar, not corn syrup, I believe. (At least that is true at the store I tend to patronize.)

I find it delicious. I buy a six pack about once a month and savor it. If you pour in some juice from maraschino cherries....wow, just like being a kid when my mom used to buy cherry syrup at Dominick's.

Coke = 97 calories
Diet Coke = 1 calories
List of Coca-Cola Products.

I do not believe either has any significant health benefits.

Rumor also has it that Canadian Coke also uses real sugar. We should be close enough to get some confirmation on this.

Canadian coke certainly tastes different. I didn't try too much on my last visit, but on previous visits it's had that sugar mouthfeel. Note that the ingredient labels read "sucrose/glucose-fructose," which is just a french-friendly way of saying sugar/corn syrup.

Canadian Dr Pepper is definitely corn syrup, and definitely identical to American Dr. Pepper. Too bad, since I was looking for a cheap alternative to the texan stuff.

Slight bit of torsion to the topic but I was recently in Ohio, and there, the *Cherry* Coke is made with sugar, no HFCS. Just the Cherry, the regular and other versions are standard HFCS. These Cherry Coke 20oz bottles were not imported or KsP. The taste was stunning. HFCS Coke when I got back tatsed like the juice leftover from a soggy bowl of corn flakes in comparison.

I wonder if individual bottlers have authority to modify the recipe?

In my research there is a hope that with more corn being used for the production of ethanol (thus driving up the cost), soft drink bottlers will be returning back to the use of sugar.

I believe most of the individual bottlers march the corporate line but at least one in Texas (referred to upthread), Dublin Dr Pepper, has enough guts to strike out on it's own.

I enjoy Cherry Coke and will be checking local sources. Thanks!

Actually it was my husband who spotted the Coke (and brought home a few bottles). Unfortunately, he didn't notice whether there are KfP cans or not. Sorry.

An additional data point from my dear husband--the Jewel also has KfP Pepsi, if anyone is interested.

It's gonna be one hell of a Pepsi taste test. Too bad I don't like Pepsi.

I haven't checked yet this year but they've had them at the Jewel in Highland Park during the last several Passover seasons. I'll try to check tomorrow and report back.

Wow, what is Pepsi Natural and where does one find it?

It's a more disgusting version of Pepsi. I got it at Target, $4.50 for 4 12oz glass bottles. Made with cane sugar and various other "all natural" things like preservatives and caramel color. Tastes like burnt sugar, and not in a good way.

In the Oak Park area...

Passover Coke in 2 liter bottles is available at the Jewel on Lake St in River Forest (aisle one near the front) and at the Jewel on Madison in Oak Park (in the beverage aisle). Look for the yellow cap.

I also checked around for 12 oz cans and didn't spot any. Does it have special labeling?

Also when I was at the Jewel in Oak Park I mentioned Passover Coke to the Pepsi gent that was stocking the shelves and he mentioned that last week they have a new product, Pepsi Natural.



Available (for now) in 4 pack of 12 ox bottles for about $4.50. Sparkling water, sugar and kola bean extract. I picked up a 4 pack today and it is chilling to have along with dinner.

Available only at Target.

Howard+Kedzie jewel had lots and lots of 2L bottles of KfP coke and pepsi, but no cans yet. A worker said they were expecting cans this week.

I was in Highland Park's Jewel this morning, their display of Kosher Coke, Pepsi in full sugar and diet were on display. Cost was $1.50 per 2-liter bottle.

Well, they weren't there on Saturday, either and the comment from the person at the store about them possibly showing up closer to Passover seemed dubious. Generally speaking, a company will bring a Rabbi in only once to supervise a KfP run, because there are costs associated with having the Rabbi on premises. It seems to me that all the KfP production would have been done at one time but who knows? Perhaps cans and bottles are produced at separate facilities, which would require separate rabbinical visits and also might explain the difference in delivery dates.
