I heard that Bravo!, a chain of mid-range Italian restaurants was supposed to go in there. Their website does indicate that they will be opeing a location in Evanston in September of this year.

Okay thanks. I've eaten at the Bravo! Glenview location, it was okay, but nothing great if you like chain Italian restaurants.
A step up from Macaroni Grill and even a bigger step up from Olive Garden, but I guess that isn't saying much.

Bravo! now has banners up outside the old Puck's location at Maple and Church, so I guess it is official.

The owner of Maiz just opened a new restaurant, Tamalli, at 2459 W. Armitage Ave. It's BYOB.

Also, the owners of Sultan Market are opening a new restaurant at 2206 N. California sometime this summer - Masada.

this morning as i passed by the very disgraceful Amelia's at Grand/Ogden (Mexican or Italian today? who knows)... They had a sign up saying that "Fiesta Mexicana" was coming soon. I wonder if it's the same owner trying to ditch the nasty past, or new owner trying to ditch the nasty past...

Fiesta Mexicana currently has two restaurants further north of where you've mentioned- one on Broadway and one on Lincoln if memory serves.

Feed the Beast has been "closed for remodeling" since Memorial Day weekend. Their sign initially read that they'd reopen a couple weeks ago, but that portion has been removed. I was going to post a message here today to see if anyone knew the scoop, but then read this in today's Chicago Magazine Dish:
The phone at Feed the Beast (4300 N. Lincoln Ave.) has been disconnected

I only ate there a couple times, despite living a block away. Was never overly impressed with the food/service but they do have a nice area for outdoor seating. Hopefully we'll get a replacement soon.

The 6/11/08 Evanston Roundtable reported that Ruby of Siam in Evanston had a change in ownership. It was unclear whether that includes the Ruby location in Skokie as well....

A Google search turned up this article:
    >>Liquor license denied over immigration status
The Evanston City Council, which recently urged the federal government to be more welcoming toward immigrants, found itself turning down an immigrant for a restaurant liquor license Monday because of a city ordinance that is more restrictive than state law.
The city ordinance requires that liquor license holders be U.S. citizens, even though state liquor laws are more permissive, letting someone who is a legal permanent resident also qualify for a liquor license.
As a result, the city turned down the application of Smithprin Chantarangkul, the new owner of Ruby of Siam at 1125 Emerson St., to renew the restaurant's liquor license, because he is a permanent resident, but not a citizen.
Alderman Lionel Jean-Baptiste, 2nd Ward, said the Administration and Pubic Works Committee wants city staff to investigate the possibility of making the city ordinance match state law.
Mayor Lorraine Morton, who also serves as the city's liquor commissioner, said that another option would be for the owner to set up a corporation to hold ownership of the restaurant, and that the corporation could apply for the liquor license, avoiding the citizenship issue. 05/13/2008 <<

Ah! Evanston and its convoluted liquor laws!!! The situation appears to have been resolved, as a person at the restaurant today said they are serving alcoholic beverages.

    Per Chicago Magazine's Dish newsletter:
Carol Watson recently shuttered her Milk & Honey Bake Shop (1543 N. Damen Ave.; 773-227-1167) with plans to spin it into Cipollina, an Italian deli. “Business was fine, but I screwed up, quite frankly,” says Watson. “We don’t have a kitchen on site, so we were dragging everything over from Milk & Honey Café [1920 W. Division St.; 773-395-9434], and it was driving me nuts.” Watson is now working with John Manion (Mas) on a menu of “straightforward, superfresh” gourmet sandwiches ($6 to $8), plus a display case full of meats and cheeses, pastries, and Italian sodas with homemade syrups. Manion has apparently enjoyed the process. “I’ve been stuffing my face with cured meats and Italian cheeses, olives, preserved vegetables, and Italian sodas,” he says. “My life is hard.” ETA: Late June.

I was at the intersection of Lunt & Clark St. this morning on my way to the Rogers Park METRA station when I noticed a sign in the window of a store in the strip mall on the NE corner advertising the coming of a new vegetable/meat shop - bearing a name in Spanish (a name I've quickly forgotten).

On the other side of the street, a bit N., at Tamales los Mejores de Guerrero: they're now serving, in addition to their standard fare of excellent tamales . . . Tamales Oaxaqueños. The Oaxaqueños are flatter, compressed more densely and come filled one way . . . with mole and chicken - and are wrapped in banana leafs. $2 each.

Yep, that's the reason for Mirabell's problem indicated on the big green sign pasted to a front window. You'll note, also, on the city inspection report - the closing of a favorite GNR recipient, earlier this year.

It's been at least a month, I think. I really doubt it's temporary --- I drive by there at least 2-3 times a week and have never seen anyone in there, ever. A friend got take out last winter and said it was awful.

Smokin' Woody's on Lincoln is closed. There's a sign on the door that says something like it will be under new management. I can say that the few times I went there yielded widely different experiences. While I think they had a good pitmaster who knew how to cook (I had some nicely smoked pork), I also feel as though he had no trouble serving bbq that had been cooked way too long ago and reheated to bad results.

I share the ennui, but (just for our general Counterburger information) I went to the website, which depicts a 5-step check-box order form that the customer is supposed to fill out, I guess. (Which meat, which cheese, which toppings, which sauce, which bun.) Some preconceived combinations are listed on page 2 for those who don't like questionnaires. There's also the claim that "Our 100% natural freshly ground Angus beef, chicken and turkey are raised on a vegetarian diet without hormones or antibiotics. Our beef is certified humane." And a note at the bottom of page 2 to "Ask about our beer, wine & drink selection."
