Maybe I'm just getting old -- I seem to recall that Bourdain's No Reservations was going to be doing an episode in Chicago. I thought I read it on this forum, but of course now I can't find any reference to it.

Anybody know anything about this? I thought it was supposed to be this season or last season.

Nope. When I saw him read at Borders a few months back people dogged him about this and he said he'd love to do one, of course, but that it wouldn't be this season. And he's not done one before.

Any excuse to get Bourdain to Chicago is good. Maybe the Foiehibition lifting will be the trick.

I thought I read it here too that he was coming to Chicago. Maybe Tony is afraid to come...although he does seem rather fearless....

What would he showcase on his show? Our true grit ethnic eateries, our unique Chicago style dishes such as the deep dish pizza, the hot dog, and Italian beef and the like, or would he tip his hat to the great creative chefs of Chicago that are making it sort of a "capital of cuisine"?

I think he really does not know so perhaps he won't come until he figures out what to put together for a show.

I just was reading the latest entry in Tony Bourdain's blog and he mentions the upcoming lineup for No Reservations and lo and behold...Chicago is a stop.

So apparently...he IS coming.

Thanks, Louisa - (with deference to the difficulties of making television) keep us as posted as you can, please?

Hell, drag him to the LTH Picnic! Sunday, September 6. Surely he can completely rearrange his schedule to be there!

edit: duh, 6th.

I think it's actually on Saturday, September 6 but yes, Tony should come!

the LTH picnic seems more like a "Wild Chicago" kind of story...

Does this mean I should plan to make tongue again, or will making sure we all bring offal-related potluck be sufficient enticement? :) (unless Antonius actually opens the much-anticipated Guts-N-Such, which would be a No Reservations no-brainer)

Most importantly, is he going to visit Joe Moore's office?

I'm not saying he should come with the film crew. Just come by and eat.

And who will act as Zamir in Chicago..........will there be a person here that will guide Tony through our dynamic metropolis?

I imagine our own Louisa Chu will continue to act as fixer for the upcoming shoot.

Michele - yes, will try to keep you posted.

Ed - I wish, because then I could go to the picnic too - sadly the timing will be off.

Toria and Steve - I will be the fixer in Chicago - but I could never fill Zamir's shoes!

:( I'm far sadder to miss one of "our own" at the picnic! I guess I'll have to wait until next year to stock my cheese cabinet

Thanks for keeping us in the know!

Our boy Sula (M'Th'Su) says that Louisa is taking him to "L20, Calumet Fisheries, and Burt's Place, among other locations--including a visit to the Tom Tom Tamale factory and Fat Johnnie's with the distinguished Peter Engler."

His film crew was at Blackbird/Avec according to some scuttlebutt I heard.

I was getting lunch on Friday at around 3:30PM at Hot Doug's and Anthony Bourdain and his crew just showed up. He got in line, while his crew was busy filming him and the hot dogs and such. He talked with other people on the line, made fun of Rachael Ray and Bobby Flay. I believe he ordered the Foie Gras dog and some duck fries. I can't wait to see the episode air, it was a cool experience being there while they were filming and I think I got pretty lucky to just run into him there.

Anyone no where Bourdain is filming while he is in town? I had heard that he dined at Burt's the other night.

He said he had a few miscellaneous scenes to add/re-tape today, then he's off to Puebla, Mexico, where more of his cooks and many of his best chefs hail from.

A couple more shots from last night at Burt's . . .

Image
Tony quizzed Burt on camera for quite some time and here, their discussion continued after the cameras were turned off.

After the shoot, at our request, Burt, Tony and Louisa posed for a few shots.

I spotted Tony as I was leaving Violet Hour last night. I didn't see any film crews so maybe the visit was just for fun.

Michele - I'm so bummed to miss the picnic but hopefully I'll be back for the Christmas party - with cheese or something from Alaska. :)

NeroW - yep, we were at Blackbird and Avec.

Ultraviolence - he actually ate two whole dogs and the duck fat fries - the other dog was Doug's classic Chicago dog.

Steve, Tom, and Ronnie - thanks so much for the great photos - as always.

leek - aww...come on now! :)

mousec1 - we just wrapped the shoot last night.

Cinny's Mom - we shot at Violet Hour earlier in the week, but last night was just for fun. It was our wrap party. Thanks so much to the amazing Toby Maloney who was not only our barkeep last night, but at Burt's the night before too.

saw a mention of a shooting schedule for NR at "the Stew" in an article on the Chicagoist website but it looks like the trib pulled the story? Any idea what happened to. Seemed odd that Bill D. would tell people where TB and crew were going to be IN ADVANCE!!
