They are both pretty bad to me, though when mixed with coke, Jack always has this distinctive minty aftertaste to me, it's so odd.

I can't drink anything from Jim, it all tastes like rice to me (get to know me in person and then ask why)

Currently : Pegu

2 oz gin (North Shore no6)
1 oz curaçao (using Contraeu)
1 Tsp lime juice
1 dash orange bitters
1 dash angostura bitters

stir w/ice service in a cocktail glass.

First time making one of these, I think it would be better with a traditional London style gin, I'm thinking about going to the Hour and having them make one with NS No 11.

I bought some pisco to make pisco sours (something I miss from Chile). But until I get around to all that blending and mixing, once in a while I just drop a bit of pisco in a glass of coke and have a Chilean teenager's version of rum and coke: a "piscola."

Babysitting extra dog in house. Put dogs out. Dog barks at extra dog, extra dog whines at door, throughout work conference call. Bring dogs in. Doorbell rings. Did not ignore as should have. Key error there. (Key error, get it? Weak laugh...) Step outside to talk. Lock self out. Get rid of person at door. Go round to gate, get into house through back door. Dogs clamoring to go out. Let dogs out. Enjoy peaceful silence in house. Lasts three to five seconds. Remember forgot to latch gate. Panic! Run outside! Both dogs gone! Chase down dog, toss in back yard. Run and shout and chase down extra dog, toss in back yard. Lock gate. Go inside. Trip over dog gate in hallway, smash big toe, twist ankle, twist knee - again! Cuss words ensue! Gradually transfer annoyance from dog gate to still not having health insurance. Limp out to mailbox, curious to see if Blue Cross paperwork has arrived yet. (No.) It starts to rain. Limp back in. Big toe is swelling up. Wet dogs clamoring at back door to come in.

Seems like good time to post to "What are you drinking?" thread. Type whole story. Hit submit. Webpage has expired! More cuss words ensue!

Type condensed version as well as remember, jettisoning personal pronouns and articles definite and indefinite. Order Indian food. Resolve not to speak to people or dogs til it arrives. Or for hours thereafter.

What am I drinking at the end of this perfectly craptastic day? Gin and tonic in a Camp Snoopy glass.

Oh Katie...I can identify with this. Althougn not being a cat owner as well as a dog owner you are missing the part where you start to relax and find the cat has puked on the bed (that you changed that morning).

Glad you got both doggies back safely.

Bourbon Smash: Slice of lime, diced, muddled with raspberries in a glass. Add bourbon (I used Maker's Mark) and ice. Top with cranberry juice. Yum. It called for a dash of bitters and some sugar in the initial muddling, but I couldn't find bitters in the few liquor stores I tried in Rogers Park.

Katie -- hopefully the Snoopy glass and its contents help ease the pain of your day!

I absolutely agree with you, but it's the only bourbon in the house and I need to use up the raspberries. (And yes, there are many other ways I could have used the raspberries...)

I'll be trying that drink so I can have an informed opinion as apposed to just fuming from the blowhole...

I look forward to your review! My research will continue because we did not have bitters in the house last night. For the second round, I muddled some basil in with the lime and raspberries. I didn't notice a difference, but Mr. X thought the basil was a nice, subtle touch.

Pellegrino water in anticipation of fun party at neighbor's this afternoon. Hydration is key (party theme is The Love Boat).

Suspect it will be Alka Seltzer later tonight ;)

(ps - Katie I am with you, Friday the dog locked himself in the bathroom and chaos ensued - laundry has been washed twice and still smells like poo).

Update on the bourbon smash made with bitters: much better. Amazing how much of a difference the bitters made.

I understand completely! After making this without bitters last week, Mr. X bought me bitters. But I had eaten the raspberries earlier in the day. We had to wait until I got more raspberries from the MCA farmers market. ;-)

I'm a little slow getting back to this but I just made the Smash and it's tasty.
the only adaption I had to make was using "lite" cranberry juice.

One question, are you supposed to peel the lime slice? I just sliced a lime and diced the slice peel and all.

I didn't peel the lime slice. The best flavor comes from the zest.

Hmm...I have some raspberries, lime and bourbon. Might need to get some cranberry juice while I'm out....

My typical Miller High Life Light in cans(I am going to own everything in the Miller points catalogue soon), and this week I finished off a bottle of Rum that had been laying around. Wallet was a little thin to be buying any tequila. :(

Two of my favorite beers are back in season.
Capitol Brewery Autumnal Fire is a delicious, light bodied but very malt-tacular doppelbock, that does not taste its 7.8% alcohol.
Lagunitas Lucky 13 is an absurd red ale. The crisp hop nose is absolutely ideally balanced with a sweet malt finish. The ideal fall porch beer.

t.v. advertising got the best of me, got a 12 pack of Bud Lite Wheat on Saturday. Finished it yesterday. Not bad, orange, and corriander notes, and a little over 100 calories. But for a little over $12 for the 12 pack, Ill stick to High Life Lite for my session beer.

I've also seen the commercials for Bud Lite Wheat - where they roll the bottle before opening it. Of course, that's traditional for Hefeweizens, since they're bottled-conditioned, to loosen the yeast cake on the bottom of the bottle. But it seems the commercials are implying Bud Lite Wheat is bottle-conditioned. Is that true?

I suppose I could buy some and find out for myself, but I can't see myself tolerating giving any support to a beer labeled "Lite."

there was a small label on the bottle that adivised of settling, and to roll the bottle, i forgot most the time.

I drink lite beer when at home so I can eat all the butter, heavy cream, beef & bbq I want, plus drink alot of tequila and still try to hold my weight. it is what it is.

Okay, now I'm going to have to break down and buy some to see or myself. Maybe I'll harvest and grow some of the yeast (if it's there) to see what it's really like.
