Hi,

I just watched your WGN segment. There is simply no elegant method for eating a 911, is there? Of the few who ordered it, did anyone really finish it by themselves?

Regards,

Yes. Juan ate it in about 48 minutes. He is pictured on page 8 of this thread.

My friend Steve is going to attempt the 911, so he says, but he's not one to shy away from a food challenge. Looking at him and his skinny frame, you wonder if it's possible, but I think he has a shot. We shall see.

Will you be putting money on that?

Ask Steve if he thinks he can finish it in 48 minutes or less. That is the current 'record'. If so, I think we can work something out.

Sup, folks. You probably don't remember, as I've only posted here a couple of times. Way back when, LTH Forum is how I found out about Wiener and Still Champion. We were googling deep fried bacon or something and ran across some of the various discussions here, and one thing led to another, and my wife and I made our way up to WaSC for lunch some Saturday .... at which point we ran into an LTH Forum gathering. LOL.

Anyway, I'm helping Gus make a simple little website, and was wondering if y'all have any pictures you wouldn't mind us using. Lots of good pictures abound on LTH Forum, but I wouldn't presume to copy them without permission.

If you're willing to share....

There's a photo pool group set up at http://www.flickr.com/groups/wasc, if you have pics on Flickr, feel free to add them to that group. Or, feel free to post here, PM me, or email me at wasc at aliverson.com with any pics, etc. Links to your pics on LTHF that you're OK with us using are welcome, too.

Thanks,
Al Iverson

Finally made it this past Saturday as a celebration meal with my brother. And man, let me tell you, the meal was fantastic. We ordered the Merkt's cheddar fries, fried pickles and some dipping dogs with the chipotle ketchup, hot mustard and honey mustard. We couldn't decide what we liked best b/c it was all so damn good. The sweet/crispy corn bread on the outside of a dog with the hot mustard went so well together. The fried pickles were perfect and still juicy and had that nice vinegar twang as you ate them, and that sauce served with the pickles (cucumber yogurt?) was great. Then the Merkt's cheddar, I mean, spread that on a shoe and I would eat it. I was so tempted to order the chili balls and thankful I did not, as we had more than enough food for two people.

Ed, thanks. Also, oops @ forgetting how BBCode works.

How did you end up with the Big One being named after you?

I gotta tell ya, I worked on the website all day yesterday, then we went to Shaw's for dinner. It was OK, but what I really wanted was a couple of dippin' dogs and some fried pickles. Had dogs on the brain all day.

My understanding is that I was the first non-sketchy customer to request a polish sausage corndog, back before it was on the menu. And who would turn down having a 10" 1/3lb sausage named after you?

Great work on the website! My favorite feature is the food-pornographic Dippin' Dog video. I am lusting after some golden-fried deliciousness, lemme tell ya.

I stopped in to WaSC for lunch today. Gus was his ever pleasant self. My 1/3 lb cheeseburger and fries were perfect, as they always are. It seems like business is picking up at Gus' place since all the recent press. It couldn't happen to a nicer and more deserving guy!

Guy Fieri's schedule was hectic for the shoot, and he had to leave early to catch a flight. Probably contributed to the DDD segment being scrubbed.

Ditto. Stopped in (when not crazily hungry) last week myself - consequently had only the "bacon-wrapped dog", which was decent (I probably put too few toppings on it, but that was my choice :-) The accompanying fries were completely outstanding however - this plate was perfectly crisp outside and creamy inside, clearly one of the best fries in the Chicagoland area IMHO. The only disappointment was the complete and utter lack of any bad-language from teenage patrons ;-)

Northwestern Student ordered the 2lb Double Undisputed cheeseburger and went on to eat it in 19 mins. It was quite impressive. He has agreeded to try the 3 lb Triple Undisputed. Will he be able to beat Juan's time of 48 mins??? Should be fun.

I was in Weiner and Still Champion on Saturday. My kids usually order Chicago style dogs and I usually order the small cheeseburger—out of calorie consciousness that has increased with age. On the new menu, the small cheeseburger is on the kids’ menu. My son changed things up and ordered the 1/3 pound cheeseburger and, for some reason, I felt self-conscious ordering from the kids’ menu if he was ordering the 1/3 pound burger, so I ordered the 1/3 pounder as well. More meat does make a huge difference. :D The 1/3 cheeseburger was juicy and perfect and dripped slightly into my fries with each bite. It was the best burger I’ve had recently—and I’ve tried some of the competition.

We were alone at 11:30 and people were waiting for us to get out so they could take our seats when we finished. The place is going strong. As others have said, it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy.

That's my only concern with this place. While I want Gus to be a big success, it's so small that I don't want it to be a pain to go there and get a seat!

Juan's 16 month old record of eating the 3lb Triple Undisputed aka 911 in 48 mins was broken this afternoon. New record 38 mins. Actually 38:00.7 if u wanna get official.

His Name is Frederick. No video. It happened during the middle of the lunch rush. I'll put up some pics. The vid of the 2lber being eaten should be ready soon as well.

For those who have an interest in speed eating, yest a customer ate the 2lb double undisputed burger in 9:47. Previously, the fastest time has been 19 mins. He will be eating the 3lb with in the next coupe of weeks. The fastest someone has eaten that has been 38 mins. I don't think he'll have a problem with that.

I was staying in Evanston last Wednesday and dropped in for dinner on the basis of the GNR award (my usual algorithm for dinner in an unfamiliar part of Chicagoland). Had the double cheddarburger and the corn dog; I didn't think the burger was anything special, but I loved the corn dog, the first time I'd ever appreciated one, and the fries were great too. Not sure I'd make a special trip, but definitely somewhere to go back to when I'm in the area.

Did you get the 2x2 burger? 2x 1/3lb patties? Or two of the 1/6 pound patties? There's a big difference, and if you had the smaller patties you should give the burger another chance.

edited to correct 1/4 to 1/6th

I believe it was 2x1/3, although I confess I could be wrong - whatever is the standard cheddarburger, in any case.
