I'm a very big fan of Sun Wah and I had an excellent lunch there just a week ago. My favorite thing about dining there is the simple effectiveness of their meat dishes. My usuals consist of 3 meat items:
1) Hong Kong Style Roast Pig. The pork is always juicy and flavorful with a thin layer of fat and nice crispy skin. This is my #1 must-order at Sun-Wah. In fact, I have a hard time coming within a mile of the place without stopping in for a bite. I find this meat to be exceptional on every visit.
2) Roast duck. Simple, slightly salty, and as good as any roast duck around. There are at least 3 different ducks on the BBQ menu and I always forget which one. I am now able to ask, "which duck?", and the motherly waitress always knows which one to bring me.
3) Salt-baked chicken or if that's unavailable (which is often), Marinated chicken. The chicken is always tender and juicy. This is a very refreshing warm-weather meat dish, especially with their crisp, clean sauce for it.
I've never come close to confusing the chicken and duck.
In terms of the rest of their menu, sometimes I get a rice noodle dish or some chinese broccoli in oyster sauce which are always fine/average. On my last visit, my uncle ordered clams in black bean sauce which were quite good.
I'm always interested in exploring the menu more, but I'm generally there in a small group, or alone, and I have a hard time getting past the first page. Anytime you want to go give it another try and explore the menu a bit more, I'm up for it.
Best,
Michael / EC
