Nope :D I also tell my creations when they look like crap. 8)

To steal a Far Side concept, (but this really happened this am while reading the paper and having breakfast.)

The wife says:
"We should go and get a new hard drive for your mother's laptop for xmas." (her hard drive simply died, we replaced it with one of ours and it fired right up, so we know it's just the hard drive.) "We could run out to the Microcenter on Ogden in Westmont, and make some stops at places we need on the way, it'll work out nicely.'

What you hear:
We should go and get a new hard drive for your mother's laptop for xmas." We could run out to the Microcenter on Ogden in Westmont, and Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's Katy's."

Lunch will be good today.
What's funny is, I'm pretty sure she wanted Katy's.

My dad just returned from a ski trip in Utah with his cousin. Midway through conversation:

"Did you eat anything interesting out there?"

"Not by your standards."

"Standards? I don't have standards! I eat Italian beefs and tamales and smoked ribs and pizza. I just wrote the phrase 'bakery bathroom sex' on an internet foodboard."

<silence>

"Ok, I'll rephrase. Did you eat anything you liked out there?"

"Sure, I ate lots of stuff I like; we ate at Taco Bell the first night, and then we ate at Pizza Hut which was great, and then we went to a Mexican place - I didn't like their flautas, but everything else was good - and then some barbecue*."

"Barbecue sounds awesome. Local place?"

"Famous Dave's."

<silence>

I guess I have standards. Happy New Year, LTH.

*Dad is actually a thoughtful and adventurous eater and has worked and lived in many places, but this is just about his ideal list when he has a rare bachelor week.

You know your husband's a potential LTH'er when...
Yesterday his co-worker noticed that he was eating spaghetti (leftovers, no less) and the following conversation transpired:

Co-Worker: Did your wife make that?
Mr. Pie's response: Why, yes she did!
Co-Worker: You should make your own food!
Mr. Pie's next thought: Why don't you go to hell?

So proud. Though despite the great itch to actually say that, he came up with a typically diplomatic response. This co-worker also has some crazy aversion to peanut butter sandwiches, and I have had this overwhelming desire to send Mr. Pie to work with a massive one just to freak her out.

When you have a 2 hour layover at an airport (Charlotte, NC) at lunchtime and all you can think about is "can I get good or at least decent BBQ?".

I found out from someone in my company based there that one of the places I found on-line (Brookwood Farms) serves BBQ from Siler City, NC. Eastern style BBQ, vinegar based. Just what I like!

I'm flying this Friday so I'll let ya'll know.

Upon reading a news blurb that mayoral candidate Rahm Emanuel’s "priority" to extend the Red Line to 130th St. would include a new stop at 111th St., you think “Awesome, then I can get to Old Fashioned Donuts even though I’m carless!”

Wow, that is sweet! That almost makes me wish I lived in Chicago so I could vote for him.

If anyone is serious about getting to Old Fashioned Donuts via CTA, it's quite easy. Take the Red Line to 95th then catch either a #34 South Michigan or #119 Michigan/119th bus to 113th Street, about a 10 minute ride. The bus will let you off on the northwest corner 2 or 3 doors south of Old Fashioned. Northbound bus stop is across the street on the northeast corner. Both buses run at least every 15 minutes most of the day so it's unlikely you'll have to wait too long. Also, dumpstermcnuggets reported getting there by Metra but it's a longer walk from the station and the trains are sometimes infrequent.

Upon being asked what you did this weekend, you beam glowingly and respond "made my first Nihari, cooked that sucker for 8 hours all night, ate breakfast like a Mughal Nawab."

You start to design an app for disguising LTH on your iPhone (different fonts, palette, hidden title and icon) so that you can read LTH on your iPhone at a restaurant without worrying your waitress or itamae is going to recognize the site.

After reading the Gene & Jude's thread, you get so hungry you convince a friend to drive you to Jimmy's since they weren't willing to go as far as Gene & Jude's. Not only do you have a new convert for "depression dogs", but you share the parking lot with 2 city snow plows and a front end loader taking a quick break from plowing.

I was at New Rebozo this weekend for the last Chiles en Nogado of the season. Everything was going fine until I hit something incredibly spicy. I was in tears, my mouth was on fire, my nose was running, and the water/tortilla chips/more food technique did nothing to help. Yet I kept eating.
  Can't stop   so damn good   can I please have a glass of milk so I can finish this dish?

I've had a serious G&J hankering since the resurgence of that thread. Yesterday, I asked three friends to drive me to River Grove. Super Bowl blah blah is all I heard. If anyone is going out that way, I'm getting desperate...

When you find yourself moving Lowel lights around your kitchen at 1 AM trying to figure out a new lighting scheme for your kitchen that will allow you to take better photos of what you cook (and you are also considering spots for super-clamp mounts).

In yoga class, teacher is walking around giving verbal cues for adjustments, walks by me and says, "Sharon, supinate." I know this word well, to rotate one's limb or foot outward, because I hear it often given my natural tendency to do the opposite, or pronate.

Yet, every time I'm told to supinate, I immediately begin to think about making soup. Shouldn't this word mean "to make soup"? Seems only right. Yoga teacher, knowing the general tendency of my mind during class to wander to things edible, says to me after we're all done for the evening, "So, I bet you're thinking about soup..." Clairvoyant, he is. That night it was cream of parsley.

It does. It's spelled soupinate. To turn a nonsoup substance into soup is known as soupify.

You do your 8am conference call from your kitchen, on speakerphone, while deveining a lobe of foie (making Thomas Keller's torchon recipe).

I got the foie lobe at Chicago Game & Gourmet. Really nice folks - I called that morning, told them what I wanted (I got Magret breasts in addition to the foie), stopped by later that day and they had it sitting and waiting for me.

I had heard about the place multiple times in the past, but had never been. They've got a great range of products that are tough to source elsewhere. I'll definitely be back.

You click on the link to a news story entitled "Weekend heat brings concern over tomatoes," only to find it was really "Weekend heat brings concern over tornadoes."

You try to sell your family members on scallion pancakes instead of matzoh for Passover. I mean, hey, they're both unleavened.

Can you make them with matzoh meal? No? Then, no.

I was inspired by your chutzpah and proposed scallion pancakes for Passover. And not the matzo ones, either. I was given the all clear. Of course, we also do the 60-Second Seder.

...you see a poster for a movie called Peep World and you think it's about the marshmallow treats.
...you go all the way to CVS just for Chase & Sandborn coffee.
...you wander around the Easter aisle at said CVS and find - for the first time in ages! after frantic, fruitless searches! - individual, 5-piece boxes of Peeps. At long last!
