mhill's cookie photo inspired me. Cool and nice, low humidity today...a perfect day to make cookies. Perfect macaron weather.

Today, Meyer lemon filled with Meyer lemon cream cheese filling and blueberry macs, filled with the homemade spiced blueberry jam I made last summer.

Don't forget Macaron Day is Sunday!

mhill, perhaps I ought to tell you that I save many of your photos in a folder called "screens" on my computer, which I use for both my screensaver and my desktop image (via a cool little program called Juggler that changes your desktop image every 30 minutes or at another interval you select). This is obviously for my own personal use; I hope I'm not violating your ownership rights in any way. I save any images that I find cool in this folder: travel, scenery, long exposure, fireworks, abstract shapes, and of course, food. Right now I'm waiting for your peanut butter cookies to pop up. And the picture of the bird you posted a few days ago - beautiful.

A young acquaintance recently completed a mind-blowing bike ride from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska to the tip of Tierra del Fuego--approximately 18,000 miles by bike!

In addition to being beyond intrepid, he is a gifted photographer, and he posted a wonderful set of photos entitled "A selection of food made or found along the way."

If nothing else it is worth it for the pictures of cemitas from Puebla. But, really, many of these photos are Ronnie Suburban-esque in their quality. Given the circumstance, that is pretty amazing. Enjoy.

I snapped this shot of a perfectly broiled kingfish sunbathing under a heat lamp in Jackson Heights Queens and my mouth was watering, but I was late to meet with friends so didn't pick one up. Despite a multi-stop food crawl, we never made it back to this spot. So I can only look back longingly and imagine how it would have tasted.

The last couple days weather put me back in winter mode, so I made pork meatballs w cannellini beans and braised kale. This was a porchetta seasoned shoulder that was going to go on the grill for sandwiches but I decided to grind it up and make meatballs. A squeeze of lemon helped, but pickled something would have been really nice. Still very tasty. Minus 5 points for the 90's plating...

Powerful picture indeed. It definitely puts me in check when I sometimes complain or get irritated about food and/or service problems, when in fact I ought to be grateful to have food on my plate in the first place. Thanks for posting that, David.
